The reason Ferrari don't fit cup holders is because Ferrari's are for driving, not drinking in!.

If You can have a drink in your Ferrari while driving, you're not driving it properly!.

 

I'll pound my Ferrari just as hard as the next guy -- but driving to the track is almost 2 hours away and I absolutely enjoy a soda or coffee while driving on a monotonous Interstate highway. Believing that every moment in a Ferrari is ten-tenths of driving is nowhere near the reality of owning one of these cars.

 

But they include ashtrays because "driving it properly" does involve smoking in the car?

 

I find my 308 much too engaging to worry about a drink holder. However, when I have made the trip on the road I do wish I had one.... This isnt available for a 308 though....

As for drinking in the car while driving, in My country that'll get you a charge of driving without due care and attention, a hefty fine and at least six points on your license (12= a ban from driving for a period of time) + a load of insurance hassle you don't want.

If you need a drink over here, you pull over somewhere, have a stroll, have a drink and watch all the people admiring your car (if you have a ferrari).

Mmm, interstates, driving in a straight line for two hours, where's the fun in that?.If it were Me, I'd look for a more interesting route so I could drive the car like it was designed to be driven and see a bit more of the country.

 

Your country is smaller than our minor states, and in some cases there simply aren't alternate routes. When some trips involve "point west until tomorrow evening" then yeah, a drink holder comes in handy.

Yes, sadly, over long distances in the CONUS it's either the interstates, or add hours or days to your trip. The scenic route is not always an option, especially with "are we there yet?" from the back seat. Cupholders, cruise control, friends, XM Radio, all are helpful.

Then again, as us rednecks say: Don't drink and drive. You might hit a bump and spill your drink.

 

But I hear that silicon does have cooling properties

 

Having looked at some of the roads and routes available in different states, I can see that some states are better off than others when it comes to good driving roads, so for some the options are 1) drive straight along the interstate or 2) drive straight along the main roads. (would I be right in thinking that there are some fabulous roads around Oregon?).

I'm lucky in that over here once you're off the motorway (or highway/freeway over there), almost all the roads are pretty good driving roads for twists, bends, hills etc. Sadly what isn't so good is the lack of decent repairs to some of the surfaces and the massive numbers of speed camera's lying in wait to help get you a ban .

 

The number of interesting roads with terrific scenery is mind boggling, you just need the time. ONce did an 8000 miler in the 550 with only 800 miles of interstate. Oregon is nice, in fact anything west of the rockies and east of the Mississippi is great too. The plains do get a bit boring.

 

I had a think about what I'd originally written and realised that I'd been a bit unfair in suggesting that there were always better alternatives to the interstate, as that's (now) obviously dependant on the State You're in. When you look into the united states as a country, the diversity around it is quite mind boggling.

I mentioned Oregon because My Sister and Brother in law have friends in portland and the roads in their photographs look quite similar to some of our roads over here.

 

I think she would work with any car? Sorry, wrong cup holder.

Mind you, once I'm a mile out of the city, I do have some very nice roads to drive on.
