430 Air Pressure sensors

They are made by Beru. I suspect there is a real possibility they are used by other EU produced cars. There are at least 2 frequencies available, 1 for US and one for everywhere else.

If you can get the old one they replaced it should have a Beru # on it.


If it makes you feel any better 200 something is way less than they were a couple of years ago.

 

Off topic, but WTH.

I'm really having fun watching the real-time tire sensors on my Cayman. The Porsche service manager told me that they are accurate, and I have backed this up by taking readings.

I don't know why this comes as surprise, but the fronts run a lot hotter than the rear tires. If you start out with two pounds difference, they become about equal after hard driving.

Imagine that.

Art- You need RDE 004 sensors,which are dark brown. Tire Rack sells a full set of 4 for less than $350. Frequency is not, repeat not, 433 Mhz, but 315 (on the road so no sources so could be 350) Mhz.

Both are F430. IIRK, orange is USA/CDN and brown is Euro/World.

 

... and speaking of sensitivity, today was the first cold morning of the year (35 degrees) and my new MINI TPMS indicator illuminates the minute the engine fired up. Either the tire was on the ragged edge of underinflation, or the sensor sure is picky! Put about 2 lbs into it while taking Luca to school, and all is good again.

Not sure if I'm a long term fan of these systems.

 

Both my lambo and BMW showed low tire pressure today and both were ok after driving a few miles.
I think the drop in pressure needed to register is about 10 - 12 1/2% so at 26psi the drop would need to be about 3 psi.

also try to look at a quattroporte sensor possibly the same year as your vehicle and they should much cheaper, not to mention that they are the same sensor. sometimes a battery disconnect and then a long test drive until the amber light shuts off will help as well. the control unit is very stone age....i've had lots of experience with them.

thats probably what happened to your sensor. control unit may have just froze

 

The filler does not destroy the sensor. What it does is cover up the pressure port which allows air into the sensor, and it can affect the sensor's pressure reading.

Carefully cleaning the sensor is usually enough to be able to re-use it. However, care must be taken not to damage the filter, and if you are unsure, it is recommended to replace the sensor.

Nope, only original BERU sensors will work with the system.

Other way around. Orange is 433MHz and Europe. Brown is 315MHz and USA.

If the above Ricambi link is referring to USA spec vehicles, then the applications listed for that sensor are wrong. The orange sensor was not used on USA 430s after Q4 2007, and certainly was not used on the F430 Scuderia USA.

 

James is, as usual, correct. The orange sensors for European cars are 433 Mhz, and that would interfere with the remotes/alarm systems on US cars, which are 433 Mhz. Gen 1 315 Mhz sensors are dark gray, Gen 1.5 sensors are dark brown. Either will work, but the Gen 1.5 sensors will last longer. The 433 Mhz sensors are light gray/orange for Gen 1/1.5.

You have to call Tire Rack. The Beru sensors are not on their web-site, except they are available when you order Ferrari wheels as an option for $334 for four, IIRC.

I mistakenly bought a set of orange RDE 001 sensors for my 575M. Sold them to someone with a UK car in Asia. At a loss, naturally. RDE 004s work.

Cleaning sounds like a better option, if it works. Except it takes some money removing and refitting the tires. For $100+, a new sensor is probably a good deal.

Incidentally, they use 43 mm stems, same as Mercedes.
