Had a Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale last night. It is good. I recommend it.

 

+1 The Shipyard Pumpkinhead is great also.

 

I think I may have had that a few years ago. Have to be on the lookout for it. If they carry it in Texas.

Had Victory Brew. Golden Monkey last night at a bar. Pretty damn good. I'll have to have it again, but it may be a little too sweet for me. It did seem to hit me pretty hard. Even more so than the 7% Punkin Ale.

 

I had Kaiser (Austrian) last night it was pretty good

I have a friend that is now importing beer into my small geographical location and I just went to a Trappist Beer tasting!

I tried:
Chimay Red
Chimay Blue
Chimay White
Westmalle
Trappistes Rochefort 6
Trappistes Rochefort 8
Trappistes Rochefort 10
Trappist Achel
Koningshoeven Dubbel
Koningshoeven Tripple
Koningshoeven Quadruppel
Westvleteren

Being more of a wine guy, I was surprised by how good *all* of these were. The Westvleteren was a real treat, as I was told it is quite difficult to source, but I really liked the Koningshoeven Dubbel as a beer that you can source relatively easily and is fantastic!!!

I can't say enough good things about these Trappist Ales!

To get in the 'beer' mood before I left home, I had a Racer 5 before leaving home: Nice, refreshing IPA to serve before a F1 race given the cool racing motif. I also had a Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale which was malty and tasty in it's own right.

 

I can see why you would enjoy those you listed being a wine guy. IMO, I consider those to be a "wine-style" beer. I enjoy them myself.

Don't think we get Westvleteren here in the states unfortunately.

 

I'm a fan of barrel aged beers. The Goose Island Bourbon County, any of the Founder's or Three Floyds' especially.

But I had a BBC (Bluegrass Brewing Company) Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout after lunch today. My god that beer has a great body, huge yet somehow restrained flavors. Lot of great vanilla, chocolate, smoke and earth, and coffee tones. I think I was served a 2006 bottle. This beer would be a great compliment to a medium cigar.

I'll be getting a case of these at my local beerstore tonight.

 

Two of my current favorites: Hoegaarden and Leffe. Both are very refreshing...

Had Hoegaarden a while back. Not really my thing, unfortunately. I'll watch for Leffe, though.

 

Hoegaarden is and will probably always be my favorite.

It's so refreshing.

 

My current favorite: Sweetwater Blue. Sweetwater 420 is pretty good too.

Bad thing is the Blue it so tasty that you'll drink a pint like you are drinking water...

 

I'm meeting the brewmaster from Orval this afternoon. He is bringing some special Belgian treats! If anyone in Atlanta is interested in joining, please message me.

 

So what did he end up bringing?

 

I was hoping he would bring the monk's only Orval (the 3.5% version), but no such luck. It is not marketed or otherwise distributed, so regular Orval.

If you are in Atlanta and ever want to meet brewers or get some rare beers, just let me know (anyone on this thread), and I'll be happy to show you around. I homebrew as well and know some brewers and good spots!

I'd been drinking a Duvel every night for about 2 years now..then they raised the price to $15.00 for a four pack.

I've been drinking everything else since looking for a substitute but no dice.

Samuel Adams octoberfest is pretty darn good i have to admit. Seems some batches have subtle taste differences but i'm impressed.

 

I bought Fat Tire Amber Ale in a pint bottle.

The short of it: it tastes as though it had been filtered through old wallpaper, dirty bedsheets from a rest home and a pair of Rosie O'Donnell's underpants.

Aside from that, it has an oily asphalt body with a dusty sheetrock finish with just a hint of old inner tube that had been peed on ten years prior.

Not a delightful ale.

 

Tell us how you really feel.

I hear ya though, Fat Tire isn't my favorite. I have a friend who swears by it, so if he's buying the beer, I try to bring my own.

If I am, I will definitely take you up on that. I'm also new to the homebrewing (done about 5 batches). My friends and I are waiting on our 6th, our first attempt at a Lager. If I have some questions I may PM you about that if that's alright.

Try Fat Tire out of a tap. To me there is a world of difference. I'm not a Fat Tire fan either really. While I like New Belgium, there is a distinct flavor in all their beer that I'm not fond of. I assume it has to do with the water they use.
