.....Patrick has signed 3 years with Andretti with some options for some nascar related feeder stuff as I recall - Pat Long is too valuable as a factory driver for LMS, ALMS, FIA-GT, LeMans 24h and so on.... why waste time as a backmarker when he's a winner elsewhere...

True enough. However, I'd bet Long would relish the opportunity to drive F1. It's got to be the dream of every driver of his talent to get a seat on that stage, no? The $$$$ wouldn't hurt either!

Pat Long can have his choice of seats in sportscars for the next 20 years if he so chooses, no matter what he does. So why not try F1 if the opportunity presents itself?

Its probably a million-to-one that USF1 would give him a look so this is all academic anyway. Everything else being equal, I simply think that Long is the best American driver for USF1.

    Cheers

But that is why Tony George started the IRL - he was tired of seeing all the furriners in the sport. That didn't last at all.

Shouldn't they worry about having a car first?

well, one would think that is the first piece of necessity for them but apparently quite the contrary --- now it looks like it's Kyle Bush as the "american driver" - whopee just what F1 needs nascar driving - if you can't pass them, bump and bang and run them off the road... why don't they just put names on paper, put in hat and viola the new drivers will be selected....with the comments below Windsor just pretty much has said that Summerton is no good, Rossi is no good... just more hot air as usual...very strange comment about Marco too - still figuring exactly what to make of that.

Regarding the comments about Pat Long and this team, Pat is far too good for this! Porsche will look after him just as they always do and put him with the best winning teams.

    f1 live reports

Sporting director Peter Windsor has named NASCAR's Kyle Busch as an ideal driver for the new USF1 team in 2011.

Windsor, who with Ken Anderson aims for their Charlotte-based team to debut next season, said he keeps up to date with the 24-year-old's progress "on a daily basis almost".

"If I was Kyle, I'd be saying to myself, yeah, those guys all talk the talk, let's see what they do, let's see what the car's like. Let's see what the race shop is like. Fair enough," he told USA Today.

Windsor revealed that he has already met with Busch's business team, and is confident his talents would transfer to Formula One.

"If he wants to jump in our car next year for doing some demonstrations here in the States, he's very welcome to do that," he added.

Busch is under contract to his Sprint Cup team Joe Gibbs Racing until the end of 2010.

Marco Andretti, the son of 1993 McLaren driver Michael and the grandson of 1978 world champion Mario, has also been linked with USF1, but the team is likely to make its plans for 2010 without an American driver.

"It's not because I don't rate him (Andretti), but I don't think he'd be right driver at the right time, or equally that we're the right team," said Windsor.

Who's he kidding? It's about $$. They don't have the credebility to hire the top talent whether drivers or engineering. It's funy that the talk is about "American" yet it an experienced motor racing engineer makes WAY more $$ in Nascar than they could dream about in F1, machinists/fabbies too. Labor is expensive this side of the pond. Drivers too would want plenty of moolah to leave the cash cow of Nascar.

It is still Windsor fishing IMO.

God Lord, it just keeps getting worse. I'm curious as to what aspect of Kyle Busch's driving Windsor feels will translate to F1.

Kyle Busch is to F1 as the Panamera is to Porsche - trying to pound a square peg into a round hole.

In the end, I have a feeling that the driver who brings the most $$$ with him will get the seat.

too funny! ! ! ! PCA Hack, see why I don't think it's a good idea for Pat Long?!?!?! or even for Bruno Senna (he's a real nice guy and really needs a good team where he can win). What part of the driving relates to F1? M&M Mars Company perhaps for a start.....I really feel bad for the great young drivers (Summerton, Rossi and others) after they read the article because it is basically telling them they suck.

    can you imagine the burnouts!

I really think that Kyle would best fit in at McLaren!!

Don't imagine that Mr E would allow any hillbilly donuts either.

I was joking! Corporate McL has trouble with most. KB will stay where he is, I'm sure he is making as much as 80% of the F1 field of drivers anyhow.

Bad timing and execution for Michael,- Senna, Ford engines, new tracks, demanding wife at home to name some.

The emoticon is your friend when it comes to duffers like me;)
I admire Mike for trying but just the commute alone would have doomed him.
Some how trans-Atlantic logistics don't worry Windsor and friends though.

Yes shame Petey couldn't have shown Michael how to do it! And no Concorde now either, maybe Petey is having a new one made from the finest carbon fibre shops in the world! probably in the wind tunnel down south there.

I still wish that they'd make it easier (or even possible) to root for them.
