Has anyone else heard about radios coming from the factory in F40s? I am also being told that they were dealer-installed items as well. Does anyone else know of installations similar to the 92 below in the attached image?

I'm no expert but I've never heard of any F40s coming from the dealer or factory with a radio.

The A/C controls look very out of place where they have them mounted.

Was NOT a factory option, but I know of two cars that had them fitted. I'd pass on that in an F40. All the music you need is right behind you....

Somebody at FNA told my associate today that radios were an option on F40s.

The window sticker and the original bill of sale would tell the story if the radio was original to the car from Ferrari or installed by the Dealer.

Obviously neither document comes with this F40 as we would have checked those first. I have not heard of many F40s that still have the window sticker.

Terry: whilst you can ask the Ferrari factory to do anything within reason, no USA F40s were built with a radio. I am aware of several cars in which the delivering dealer installed a radio post-production to meet a clients request, but the car wasn't built that way and it was a post-production application.

The car you have posted an image of is the ex-Paul Frame 1992 USA F40 (with radio and red carpeting) and in that instance it was most certainly a post-production application facilitated in the USA.

Really? I always keep my window sticker and original bill of sale and pass them on to the next owner.

Starting around 2000, most people saved the window sticker for theselves and subsequent owners. Before then, not so much...

I have handled a fair number of F40s since 1996 and I have never heard of one with a window sticker.

I was wondering why I couldn't spot the green goop holding the car together. . . :)

Looks factory but where would the speakers go? Please don't say the door panels.

The absolute worst thing is when people install the aftermarket stereo....... and then cut holes in the door panels for the speakers! The 1992 pictured along with the one at Cenepas both have been altered.

It only always looks terrible. Rod Stewart made a good effort, and spent a fortune to make it look factory, but in the end it just looked cheesy. My first thought upon encountering a radio in an F40 is to devise a way to remove it and return the car to originality without any traces of the audio crimes committed.

What would be the difference internally with regards sound between an F40 and say a Diablo VT? I have the latter and have recently modernised the head unit and speakers and the system sounds great. I do love the sound of the car also, no question but is the F40 really that much louder that having a sound system is useless?

I understand the whole sacred F40 thing and it should be touched but thats not my point, is it usable?

A stock F40 is pretty quiet due to the turbos, probably quieter than a Diablo VT, so I would think a stereo would be quite usable.

A modified F40 exhaust would probably be too loud. I know mine is.

As frefan says, it is definitely usable with a car that has cats and a standard exhaust.

But it looks out-of-place in that spartan interior which is clearly designed for nothing but focused driving. In the Diablo VT you have the luxury of leather & carpeting, and a radio seems appropriate.

I'd much rather listen to Maranello's music in that car....
