The last 400 years have belonged to the English and the Americans. The Japanese were supposed to take over. Now the Chinese and the India are supposed to take over the world economy. Don't count the Americans out.

America will take anybody in that is willing to work hard, Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asians, Eastern European, Latin Americans, South Americans, Africans, Mexicans, fill in the blank. I don't see anybody running off to China or India for economic reasons.

When people from the second and third world stop immigrating to North America and Europe then I will agree the West is dead. Until then send us your cars, appliances, stereos, and mostly your people.

BTW, if America is FUBAR then Canada is not far behind given all the business we do with them.

The US is done.. Commodities are for the most part priced globally. The US dollar as the reserve currency allowed the US to be lazy and live far above their standard of living. It is time for a massive readjustment. The rest of the world will finally "decouple" from the economic drag of the US. It has begun.

Illegal Immigrants Returning to Mexico in Record Numbers

DALLAS — Illegal immigrants are returning home to Mexico in numbers not seen for decades — and the Mexican government may have to deal with a crush on its social services and lower wages once the immigrants arrive.

You missed my point.....in Brasil people won't borrow......they'll wait until they inherit and save.

An average place in an average district in Rio is R$50,000.......30k
,000 CAD +/-.......it may take someone earning an average wage 15 years........based on our personal friends experiences......versus paying interest on a mortgage. Which they refuse to do......

I think most of the world is like this. Only here will you see 25-year-olds on their 3rd new house. Many other places you don't get a house until someone else dies.

    Very True!

But remember, North America is the consumer and capitalism leaders of the world. Real Estate, cars, shopping, business.... everyone needs to make money, and then advance to the next level here.

Amen. If no one wanted to get ahead we would still be living in grass huts.

Debts are why people get up in the morning.

Otherwise, live in a warm climate, get up late in the morning, go for a swim, eat some fruit, have a nap in the afternoon, go for another swim, eat dinner, go for another nap, repeat cycle.

Hmmmmm.....isn't that why we wake up early in the morning, go to work, make overtime, pay bills, save money, pay more bills, etc.....All to hope for a future like you described.
(Go for a swim, take a nap, eat fruit in a warm climate).

I already see millions of people doing that.....we are the suckers who need to work, in order to get into the grass huts....Doesn't make sense does it?

    Can't argue with your logic.

You see the light, however, its this rat race that allows you to enjoy your Ferrari. No work, no money, no money, no Ferrari.

    1. Rat Race + Mortgage + Bills + Ferrari = ENJOY

    2. Grass Hut + Coconut + Sunshine + Island Woman = ENJOY

I'd rather go with option #2

It's not what you earn, it is what you keep.
Once you realize that most of what you spend money is 'want vs need', the money piles up quickly in your savings account. And guess what, you can retire comfortably at 59! And still have a Ferrari.

One problem with the rat race concept is there is many rats chasing a much smaller piece of cheese these days. Quality of life has definitely been on a downward slope in North America for the last 20 years. 30-40 years ago 1 hour of work was followed by 3 hours of play, these days this is almost inverse. As an example, taking average Canadian wage of low 18-22 per hour, it now takes 1 full hour of work if not more just to enjoy the movies. Take a look at the QEW, people literally living 3-4 hours a day inside their cars just to make it to work.

If you are in the top 5-10% of the population then you are most likely better off, as wealth has become more concentrated. But the remaining 80% are essentially competing for 20% of leftover wealth.

Many wealth producing industries have been taxed out of existance or closed down. They have been replaced with support services such as healthcare, low paying retail, finance and insurance speculators. None of these replacements add wealth to an economy, they merely shift around existing wealth.

Unfortunately with massive unsustainable public pension programs, ageing population, massive personal debt, crumbling infrastructure, lack of vibrant industry the future does not look too good for Canada. Australian dollar is now within a few cents of ours. The only areas of the country that will continue to experience growth will be anywhere that is resource producing.

What you are talking about is the resulting costs of socialism. That's why California is broke. The problem with socialism is that there are too many takers and not enough givers. Your so-called wealth disparage comment is a left wing bull **** scrool that the dog ***kers of the world use as a wedge to have a voice in getting more government help. That help that costs us!!! If I had the time I would and could go on about this forever... but I have to get to back to work... WAKE UP!!! And reprogram yourself back to common sense.

The US is dead broke, mark my words, you will see the Amiercan way of life go into shock in your life time. You heard it first....its truly sad for us here in the west.

I thought we were in the north?

Anyways.....what makes me the most angry is that during this recession, the goverment has given out billions of dollars in "stimulus" funding to increase jobs...(Ehealth, Construction) except that most of the money has been blown away by goverment officials, consultants and management. I thought these were the people who are trying to help us!

And with no accountabilty, go figure...the funny part of all this as an example the ceo of ecredit (her name escapes me) is now suing the Ontario government for wrongful dismissal...lol....id like to know what kind of democracy this is or what it has evolved into., The only difference i am starting to see now between our elected officals and a dictaroship state, is that we distribute the wealth to other greedy money hungry top of the food chain people abit better.......but not much ;)

respectfully, yes GWB was one of the greats, The only thing he wasn't good at was speaking quickly on his feet and the socialist, lefty, communists did a great job of exploiting those gaffes to nauseum. GWB got things done. With no recession, more disasters running congruantly than any other living president and also established a much needed base in the desert, among other things. He got things done... Don't forget, those saudi's tried to strike the towers 3 times prior under Clinton, Exporting America, started with Clintons. I could go on and I'll debate ANYONE on this subject. Anyone who will bet against the U.S. at this point will lose alot of money, like they always have. I'll take GWB over this SH!THEAD that they have today anyday. And Starboy, (RESPECTFULLY) what happens in the U.S. directly affects us here, we follow California and we have Alberta to drag us out from being broke.

The Teachers pension are funking this country, it should be broken up.

    STOP watching Oprah would you.

(respectfully), you are not in tune with real world affairs.

GWB had a surplus when he took power, he deregualted everything and made wall street even more less accountable....the US under his watch say there national debt increase to the highest levels in American history, he was also hated around the world...even there closet friends.....

As for the "no recession" he was in power when the whole entire world was enjoying growth....he even admitted as did Greespan that maybe it was a mistake to go as deep into deregulation...they ADMITTED they created this mess of present....

as for your communist and socialist remarks ....get out of the 70s.....the US government now has major interests in all there banks with the bailouts, GM, AIG...and others....you should read up on what socialism is, the US is already there, they are just too stupid to see it.

As for the present "Sh***he*d" in power you mention....you should be thanking your lucky stars that the 90 yr old and that stupid spoiled house wife that cant balance a check book never got into power south of us....

PS....mark my words, the US is toast....they dont have the money or power anymore on the international stage....just because they have a few weapons means nothing, they are losing the wars aboard with guys that dont have shoes...they are bleeding to death in these wars that your good friend GWB started...and the 400lbs McDonalds eating american whose job got taken by an illegal mexican, or non speaking indian that lost there home....aint getting it back because the banks wont lend him there Chinese money :)

My friend you are categorically wrong on almost every point. Just to address one point for you to look up if you wish is the fact that the deregulation and supportive policies that caused this problem were instituted by Greenspan with Clinton's blessing under Clinton. I would love to educate you in person and debate this topic and I promise not to turn you into sushi. That is... unless you make me .

    Respectfully,
