Some of you may already know this, but for those who don't, I just learned over the weekend when a friend ask me to be his navigator for the rally in his 1983 Alfa GTV6 that after looking at his dashboard I notice he got the same window switch as the one on my QV. This is available new from IAP: http://www.international-auto.com/mechanical-switches/power-window-switches.cfm Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Depending on what year your Mondial is, the back of the switch that is in the picture is different. From memory, the Mondial switch has three blades on the back. Maybe the Alpha switch has extra because it could be back lit? This is not to say that it wouldnt work. Just thought I would bring it up. Thanks
I have an 82 Alfa spider. the window switches in it are exactly the same as my 84 308. I posted this IAP link way back when in the cross reference thread. By the way, I bought the IAP switches for my 308 back in 03. Perfect.
I found exact replacements for mine, 5 blades on the back at Carquest, $22. Meant to post the part number on the cross-reference sticky, but haven't.
Tommy, my '81 308 window switches have 5 poles on the back. It appears that the switches currently offered at IAP for the Alfa's have 4 poles. Are these compatible with the 5 pole receptacles? Are you using the 4 pole switch with a 5 pole receptacle? Thanks!
If I'm not mistaken, I think the 5 pole switch has two separate ground. The 4 pole switch has 2 ground wire but combine to one pole.
I believe the five pole switches are lighted, whereas the four pole switches are not - as I recall, that's the difference. The 308 uses a five pole switch. These switches are made by a couple of different suppliers, the most common of which is "Torrix." This same switich (five pole) is also standard on a few non-Italian cars such as the Range Rover Classic (four of them) from 1984-1990 as well. Incidentally, I replaced the window switches in my 308 with new ones and the windows are significantly faster going up and down. I suppose there must have been some dirty contacts on the ones I had which impeded voltage.
Guys, T Rutlands is having a special on QV 5 prong window switches. Get a pair for $40. Not sure how long this lasts, but check it out on their homepage. I ordered a set, I'll let you know how they turn out when they show up. Jason
That seems like a pretty good deal. I just bought a pair from Euro Auto Parts Online for $14.96 apiece, new. They are listed as replacement switches for an 87+ Range Rover. They are the 5-prong switches that look identical to the ones in my 81 gtbi with the exception of one of the directional arrows on the switch is solid white..the other is outlined white..Oh well, there goes my concours aspirations. I just received them and have not had a chance to try them out. Also just got a set of the Birdman's fuse blocks...now just need some window relays and some degreaser and my dog will be in heaven!
These also fit Maserati Biturbo, not that it would help in locating them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
OK! I just ordered the switched from T-Rutland and they are having a Buy one - Get one free until the end of the Month. Order yours now.
84, 85, 86, probably later too. Also same as the Quatroporte. Over the years I have seen that when getting switches for these cars, the exact style of switch seems to change periodically.
I got them today from T Rutlands. The look exactly like the switches in my 84, but not like either of the pics above in this thread. They're 5 prong, with white arrow outlines only. The corners are curved and the center is curved, not a hard angle like the pic above. I'll try to take another photo later. I'm having trouble getting my camera to work that close up.
Here are pics of the T Rutlands "2 for $40" switches. I guess they look about exactly like the Alfa GTV switches from the first post on this thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
