Out for a drive last weekend, took a photo I thought worth sharing. Xenons just installed on the car, can actually see at night now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic Ron: but I bet the part you enjoy the most is the fact that this is one dialed-in USA F40. Enjoy, she looks great!
Lights! Seeing at night? What a novel idea... ;-) What was done to the electrical system to ensure it doesn't go up in smoke with the extra load? Heck, I'm even afraid to add a radar detector to mine given all the threads on the F40's electrical woes. e.g., delaminating fuse boxes, corroded connectors, etc. Ive never had a problem yet with mine (knock on wood) and I usually dont want to temp fate, but your light mod is worth considering. Great to see you back with the car - on the road! Tim
Xenons pull less load than the standard halogens, so no problem. Draw was carefully measured at install, all good. And VERY BRIGHT!!
Interesting. Ive owned 3 different F40s over a period of 15 years and no electrical problems to date. Not one.
Hey Joe, I wonder what % have problems? Some of the service folks on this board have inferred that they all will at some time on certain circuits like fuel pumps and fans. I have no first hand experience thank goodness. There's also a couple of threads on these era circuit boards: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71747&highlight=F40+fuse http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134426&highlight=F40+fuse I just talked to a former F40 owner and he said he had to patch wire a number of the board traces and replace some melted connectors. He sold it right after that. I wonder if cleaning connectors periodically might help stave off corrosion problems, and thus some of the high resistance, high current, high temp, melted board/connector, follow-ons. Tim
Tim, no doubt it happens. But something as simple as looking for signs of accumulating dirt & corrosion and cleaning connectors pro-actively (as you suggested) obviously must help. Depends on how much time you want to put into maintenance. Fingers crossed...
Not so! I have seen Ferrari's with around the same miles and there not as old as the f40 and they don't shine that good. I guess it's how you up keep them. Anyway nice car.
