Thanks Verell. From you high praise indeed! Having been through this I fully appreciate the work you must put into all the parts you provide for the community! I'm not quite there yet but I think the glass is ok - just need to work out a simpler method to remove the old one. Mark
I do have a left one (broken glass), but the glass is still in one piece. Let me get home and take a couple of pics ....
Here goes ... If you think this could be of any help I'm willing to ship it to you. Just send me the address by PM. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thankyou very much for the offer. My own lens is in pieces already - from trying to remove it from the housing. Although its in pieces it is still good enough to get a reproduction made so I'll pass on yours for now. Looks like you'll be needing a new one though when I get them done.....? Cheers Mark Taiwan/UK
You're welcome. Just let me know if you do need mine. Yes, I'm going to need one. I want to have a spare! It took me 1 1/2 years to find a replacement! One thing that I'd like to know: are the US and euro glasses the same? My euro glasses have the following reference written; 41730 - right side 41729 - left side Could you please check yours? Thanks, Rui
Mark, Yes indeed, excellent work!!!!! Thanks for the dimensions and schematic of the new lens. I need a little bit of time to verify the comparison between the Mondial and the the 328GTS versions. On initial glance it appears the proverbial 1/2 inch dimensional difference may be in the Turn signal lens itself. The photos that RGigante (thanks Rui) posted show the the turn signal/parking light lens to be a 1/2 inch proud of the face of the foglight lens (on the Mondial unit both are flush) and compared to my lens the colored part of the plastic lens is definitely deeper . I'll get back to you soon but I'm thinking / hoping the housing units are the same, which make good financial sense on the part of Ferrari. Hopefully, this means the Glass lens will fit both car models. Ross
On that picture the turn signal plastic lens wasn't screwed to the housing !!!! When it is, it follows the same inclination as the glass lens. I believe the difference is in the lenght of the complete assembly and the shape of the round part, but I'm not sure.
Just a word of caution, I used some of those clear plastic lens covers in the 70's and they had a nasty habit of making the lens you were trying to protect crack from the heat buildup they created between the lens and the cover.
Hi Rui, On mine the LH side is 41770 RH side is 41754 Perhaps not the same but the difference could only be in the frett or the number of flutes on the inside of the glass etc. Mark
Hi Brett, Yes, good point so perhaps this cover should not be a complete cover - leaving maybe the top and bottom surfaces open and just protecting the exposed front face of the glass? I'll post a schematic when I get a chance to look at this during the week. Thanks Mark
Today I got time to fit one of the prototype pieces I have and it seems to fit well - no issues here. I used some black silicone adhesive sealant from Permatex as this was what I had to hand. I didn't use too much as I may want to remove it later for some reason..... Anyway pics enclosed. Will order the first run tomorrow. Rui, Thanks for clarifying. When fully screwed down the 2 lenses are flush? BTW my right lens is #41769. Ross
OMG! What happened? Looks like you need a bit more than just a glass lens.......Anyway I'll put you on the list for a pair when they are done and sorted out. Thanks Mark
I'm putting together a list of interested owners and i'll drop everyone a reminder note when I have both sides done and ready to let out. Most people seem to want a pair which is understandable. The pair won't be ready for at least 3-4 weeks depending on any snags that come up on the LH lens. Thanks for the comments and interest though, much appreciated. Mark Taiwan/UK
I thought the blinkers were still available. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. They are from plastic or ABS and should be a lot easier to reproduce however if they are still available then I don't really see the point in trying to make them. I'm only doing these fog lights because I and a lot of others here have broken ones and there are none available anymore. Thanks anyway, Mark
Thanks for that. Please let me know when the pairs are available. If I can slip it into the budget I will. Cheers........ Bob.
That confirms my idea that they are in fact different. The broken one (left side) that came with my car is a US version and it's different from the right side one. If you replace both it's not obvious, but you can see the difference if you have one of each. Still, it's better to have a different spare than none at all ! I'll try to post a close-up picture of my euro light later today
They are available! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160355045918&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123 The listing has ended, but get in touch with the seller and he might have more or maybe produce them.
Thought I'd better post an update in case you all think I've given up or flaked on the project. I installed the new lense I was given by my supplier into the old light housing with no problems. I've re-installed the light in my car without any issues and it all looks and works fine. pics above. The next day I took delivery of the remaining test batch of 10 pieces and unfortunately hit a snag. It was all going too smoothly anyway..... The glass pieces all had defects of various types ranging from poor reproduction of the logos and ID numbers etc to rough inside surfaces to bubbles in the glass casting. Sent the whole lot back and they will remake this batch. I should get them early next week. The good thing is the first 2 I received were pretty nigh on perfect so its possible to achieve the right result. The mold for the left hand light is underway and we should be ready to cast the first trial batch in about 10 days from now. Basically everything is going well - just taking a little longer than I had (optimisticly) planned. Another update when I've got something to actually sell - not long now I hope......! I'll post a couple of pics later today when I can get them off my iphone...................... Cheers Mark Taiwan/UK
