    Don't get me wrong: 2005 and 2006 were fantastic years. 2004 was the low point.

    Why?Because it was the best year an F1 driver ever had.Just curious.

    Because it was a MS only season. There was no thrill of any sort and by then he already had surpassed Fangio's 5 titles, so it didn't really matter anymore whether he'd surpass him by 6 or 7.

    Only MS die-hard fans enjoyed that season. Worldwide TV viewership started to tank big time. I'm not making that up, I have the numbers from Business F1. Once Alonso arrived as the challenger on the scene in 2005, that all changed.

    And yes, the FIA deliberately changed the rules on no tire changes for 2005 knowing full well, that it would harm Ferrari. They had to do something to level the playing field and get viewership back.
