Anybody catch The Amazing Race last week? One guy got to drive the track. Pretty interesting episode of the area. Have you checked out the Middle East section of the forums?

Understand first they have two faces. As long as you only see the face they are showing the western world because they want the F1 circus there. You might be ok;)
The other true face, lets hope you dont see. Many westeners can break there laws without even knowing they have done so, until they are arrested. Stay in the organised areas is my advice. But i suppose Berne thinks they only have one face.....money:) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/8023364.stm http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=7407186

You think there's any country out there that isn't two-faced? Would you like to hear about the drug trade in your country, with the real players quietly ignored by the cops because senior officials have told them to back off?

Nathan, you are correct - they are sold out - the article is below

Surely MikeF already has his tickets to the event, although from his post yesterday he said he just decided to go.

Got curious this am to see what the af to there would be from DFW leaving this week coming back Monday - not bad at all, NS on KLM (the best route to Europe out of DFW) via AMS to Abu Dhabi for $1227. Apparently there are designated folks at the airport at Abu Dhabi to assist with the visas.

    Oh well.......

The organisers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have confirmed that the inaugural race is a sell-out.

The Yas Marina circuit is the only new venue on this year's calendar and marks the final round of the 2009 Championship.

And although both World titles have already been claimed by Brawn GP, the race has been sold out with around 50,000 grandstand tickets already purchased.

"We've had an amazing response locally, nationally and internationally and every ticket has been sold," said Yas Marina Circuit CEO Richard Cregan.

"This will be an historic race of firsts: The first F1 race at Yas Marina Circuit; the first day into evening F1 race - with only one driver who will forever be recognised in F1 history as the winner of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

"For all the fans attending the event, we aim to give them a truly memorable experience."

I watched it and - like all TAR episodes - loved it. Was a fairly simple challenge though: If you have a F3 to follow a pace car around, you can just floor it, the pace car will loose it long before you.

That said, I could never do a bungee jump off anything.

Sorry Mike for the high jack, but I answered your questions already in your parallel thread (tsk tsk tsk).

Abu Dhabi is a hole. Nothing to do, nowhere to go. Reminds me of Birmingham, Alabama, actually. If you are just there for the race weekend it will be tolerable, but forget trying to stay over and see the sights. There aren't any.

That said, it's not at all the place sambomydog is trying to make it out to be. It's not Saudi Arabia, boyo.

Hey, really glad you are enjoying your visit. I've been there several times on business, and it's always been a matter of "OK, there are a few decent restaurants, and that's about it." Good to know there is now something to do besides driving to Dubai.

Ok, I'm dying to get the scoop on the Ferrari theme park. ANY picture would be appreciated.

I've seen the promo 3d rendering on youtube and have an idea of what's there, but real fotographs would beat that anytime.

Wow, I don't use cannabis, nor am I currently prescribed codeine and I still wouldn't take my chances. The 3 poppy seeds and .003g of cannabis has to be an exaggeration right? That's absolutely absurd.

Amazing, for a country that wants to attract turism for the "after petrol days", they'll have to do some work, other than buildings.
