    I figured we cannot go wrong with timeless/classic designs and moreover if we take some time to try to find the good match with the body design of car it can give something truly great, in all the subjectiveness of personal tastes!!!

    I think I prefer the 355 wheel over the 348.



    This latter looks too much two dimesional/flat for me.
    But this is the nicest picture of a Mondial with 348 wheels I have found. Gorgeous!


    Like an aerodynamic wing, the thinnest part should be at the trailing edge but unlike typical directional wheel design, this one Ferrari made had the advantage to make sense every way. This leads to another question: Do 348 wheels are all identical or they come by pair; one for each side. ( I just don't understand wheel manufacturers proposing directional design and not offering a wheel which is the perfect reflexion of the other side one; I do not want to like only one side of my car!!! )

    Is your fuel saver not in the car?. Mine is still in place and still gives an extra 8 miles to the gallon. The cow magnets are good for another 3 mpg. My dad is pushing me to chrome the wheels good for another 6mph but at a loss of 1mpg.



    I previously did a quick visual study of the 348 wheel because I asked myself the same questions about directional wheels. I believe Ferrari's wheel is directional which told me they wanted the blunt edge first with the trailing edge tapered because I haven't seen a set shown the other way from all the pic postings, only in the stock direction. Because of this one should be able to swap them side for side and give them the more aggressive look of knife blade first.(begs an additional question) Are they staggered widths front to back therefore each set of wheels has 4 unique wheels?(Someone?)

    Since the blade(spoke) is shielded by the rim there is no actual (or slight) aerodynamic effect (drag) but the question becomes airplane wing or knife edge and Kamm tail both have valuable aerodynamic value but not here where only the visual has any real value. However, on some wheels applications on other cars the turbine wheel actually helps draw cooling air over the brakes. I wonder if Ferrari did any wind tunnel tests to orient the 348 wheels in the direction they did or was it purely a design decision. I know in the design studio many hours could be spent on this discussion sometimes resolved by power and who has it and sometimes by poll or consensus. Wish I could ask the question to those involved.

    In one of the threads someone noticed a wheel was backward a 348? or a tire was mounted backward due to the directional arrow and it was corrected. If I get a set of 348s I will definitely try them both ways and decide. Would a concours judge ding one on this?

    I like these also, mainly because they don't have all those extra racing inspired nuts and bolts which is either too aggressive or sometimes just too busy looking and certainly a PITA to clean.

    Repaint? Beautiful Blue but not stock color Blue Chiarro? Also you repainted the rubber surround of the sail panel (flying buttress)? Flex agent in paint? looks good.

    Nice Mondial, but I have to admit, those stock wheels are probably the least attractive wheels ever to come out of maranello. Certainly why every Mondial I see lately has aftermarkets. They definitely improved with the later 328 wheel.
