Hello Peter...what's up about the Jarama ??? Olivier LCB President www.lamborghiniclubbelgium.com www.jaramaregistry.com
Not for me, since I followed this preseries prototype through pictures and magazines, it was already described in the Coltrin/Marchet Countach bible that the red one was resprayed green for the Paris show 1973. When I inspected the car 2000 I found the red colour in the wheel housings and on the frame. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures from underneath. For me it's obviuos that during the ownership of Leimer/Rosetti they had to make money of all they had in stock, sold prototypes, one offs and development cars, economy was really bad then. It's a huge luck that so many enthusiasts saved those extremely rare cars and they survived. http://www.countach.ch/History/LP400/index.html At least twice a day I see my QV in the garage and every time I'm deeply impressed of it's unique design. That pictures is now 2 years old http://www.lamborghiniclub.ch/Kalender/2007_10.jpg I strongly doubt this... Lamborghini did not have the money to produce 6 prototypes, no chance those days with the oil crisis and the italian workers going on strike. There is a single car worldwide with these specific taillights, no other car had them, also the side windows, I suppose you saw 1120008 which has the same colour "verde Scuro" but a lot of differences, I could fill have a sheet listing them compared with the other LP400 which were pre or production cars.
With the greatest respect, I know the green car was at the London Motor Show in 10/11 1973. It had a tatty interior ( sun visor came off in my hand ) and real chokkie block seats. The following year, the reddish / orange cars were presented in Earls Court. All IMVHO Peter
Read what you like " Not for me, since I followed this preseries prototype through pictures and magazines, it was already described in the Coltrin/Marchet Countach bible that the red one was resprayed green for the Paris show 1973." Sit in and photo the cars .... PL
I am the guy who got reprimanded here for badmouthing my 88 CT as one of the worst exotics I have ever owned. Well, the more I read this thread, the more I miss that car. I recently caught myself actually drooling over an 81 S a friend of mine bought new and still owns. I started looking for a photo of mine (#12364 bought new in 2/89 and sold in 2/92) and just scanned this one. I think it went to Kuwait via Motorsports Int'l. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Peter: I am thinking the LP400 prototype was red in 1972, then the green car in 1973, the opposite of what you are describing. Look at this image of the front end: the driving lamps are not yet installed in the bumper, the riveted-on air-vents for the brakes are not yet affixed, the front hood is not yet recessed, and it has twin wipers parked askew rather than the single pantograph unit. All the features I am pointing out remain the specification today, so I think my theory has basis. Perhaps the red car in 1974 was an early production LP400? Unless there was more than one prototype LP400!!! That's why we need to see your 1974 Clapham images Image Unavailable, Please Login
This green car started its life in red. I asked Raymond to check for red paint under the green when he found the car and he confirmed the red paint was visible in some areas. Same car!
In 1973 1120008 did not exist yet, but in 1974 you did in no way see 1120001 in red again, since it kept it's green colour... for sure you saw one of the earliest LP400. I sat in 1120001 in 2000 when I discovered this very first LP400 in Switzerland, the pictures on www.countach.ch were taken by myself...
OK folks, here is 1120001 at the 1972 Monaco Grand Prix weekend, in "red spec" as described above! Image Unavailable, Please Login
And, some rather tasty ones of the LP500 which I haven't posted before! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

This is correct. Photos provided by Fchatter Graphicar. Last week I also inspected #1120001 and saw some more traces of red colour. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
VERY interesting wheels. I wonder if mine are not the Urraco prototype but the Countach prototypes hmmmmmm. The rears on the yellow are no where near as deep as the red car. Interesting. Keep in mind my Urraco is a '72 and the 4th production. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Front is same CT/Urraco, rear is different, same on the Silhouette/Bravo's... I think the first Urraco Proto's with those wheels were earlier than the CT proto LP500.
In the C/M book and in the several other photos of 001 when it was red with black interior, it appears the gauge spacing is different and there is no voltmeter - only ammeter on the far left. Also looks to be the same in one photo of 001 as it is now (green/tan). Can anyone confirm if there is a 'missing' gauge? Could the orange-red 1974 car be our 004 perhaps? Looking forward to pics! As of now we have no pre 1983 images of the car.
Sorry to go in a different direction for a moment, but does anyone know when the rectangular boxy muffler was used on the CT? It is shown in the TAV but there's no breakdown on application. Is it a US only piece? I have a nice used spare we'll need to identify and find a new home for... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Welcome back and thanks for sharing the image. I don't think you were being reprimanded, but rather Countach owners were simply voicing the fact that their experiences were mostly markedly different from yours. Fantastic to know of a one-owner LP400S!
