Everybody on this forum probably knows of this car already. A zillion page post with hundreds of detailed photos over years of work, the Forza article, on and on. (Resto work here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4503&highlight=308+restoration)

I am not the seller nor connected, but just noticed this listing today. At No Reserve. Somebody's gonna get a prize.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/308-GTB-fully-restored_W0QQitemZ260498175679QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item3ca6e6b6bf

Still makes me crazy to think of the work in Paul's car, and that he has the gumption to want to do ANOTHER Ferrari after this (his Boxer). I also can't imagine if someone gave you a 308, if you could replicate this for even twice the opening bid.

But anyway, just thought it was interesting... and sure to get moreso...

Nice car, but that's not really a no reserve auction. It would be interesting to see what would happen with it on a real no reserve auction.

I agree, it is an absolutely stunning car, but a $73,000 opening bid is very similar to a $73,000 reserve.

Great job and my hat is off for a wonderful project. My positive praises are 99%. The 1% > Why would you do that and not paint it red, or use a QV or even a fiberglass car? I understand that you should create what you love, but it is FOR SALE so why not resale red? I restored a 1967 Land Rover 109" Station Wagon to the same level over the past 5 years (completed last year) and all I could say was "I could have two awesome 308's in my Garage for what I have in this car!!! I love the car, but I would prefer to have an awesome 308 and an Alfa ????? and a Porsche ??????? or maybe just a F-430 for what this 308 cost? Cheers to a great car!!!! Brian

I never get tired of looking at pictures of Paul's 308. Every square centimeter of this so-clean-you-can-eat-off-it car puts my driver-level, undercarriage-coated-in-years-of-greasy-road-grime, at least 10 foot car to shame.

(IMHO) I blame the economy. If you know Ferrari's, you're going to appreciate one with that level of love and detail. The value is easily justified in the paint alone. I'd be scared to add up the receipts on my 308. As for the type of car, a steel bodied carb'd 308 is a perfect car to perfect. I just don't think people are opening up their wallet right now. I've heard a lot of talk wondering if we've hit bottom.

I pulled my 308 OFF the market last year. The consignment store helping me had all of their inventory stalled. They blamed the economy as well.

I wish mine looked that fantastic, but I've almost spent that much anyway! Newman's car is a bargain for someone (like me) who loves the 308GTB. I also feel that red might actually make this one less desirable. I'm thinking that there are already a few extremely nice red ones out there, this is probably the nicest yellow one we'll ever see.

What an incredible restoration! For someone with ample coins this will make an excellent addition to the stable...which is where it will undoubtably spend a lot of time. For the $$$ you could buy a LOT more modern performance...but there are volumes to be said for the simplistic characteristics and clean lines of these older GTB's....I also find it more interesting in that it is finished out in something other than red.

Makes me want to go wax my b...well, maybe not

That restoration is the pinnacle of perfection. It should go to a museum so that people can be mesmerized by its perfection a hundred years from now. Far too nice to take on the road in my opinion.

OK I hear ya, but if you want to sell a Ferrari, if you don't have a red one you have taken yourself out of 80 + % of the market.

Colo0 is relatively meaningless to a car turned out to this standard IMO If the color was some bizarre non-original color or one of the lesser desirable ones, maybe. But if someone wants a red car, there are a few thousand of them out there to look at. If someone wants one at this level, there are few to none others to look at. If all Ferraris were red, life would be very boring indeed. What a nice car; hat's off to the owner. And at $75,000 this car is a bargain.

I hope this stunning car goes to someone who truly appreciates the amazing amount of thoughtfulness and attention to detail that went into revitalizing this piece of art.

Wish I had the $$ and space for it.

Good luck with the sale, Paul!

yeah, what was Enzo thinking?!? ;)

PS I agree red sucks on Corollas, non fire department hummers, pick-ups, etc.
And yellow, blue, black, green, silver, white etc are all well and good, but all Ferrari's look best in good old Rossa Corsa.
    The market doesn't lie.

The market doesn't lie about white boats either... which makes those of us with black boats all the happier!

Colors are more than a little subjective, so none of us are 'wrong' (though I'm clearly more right than the rest of you nitwits! :))

I'd pay more for blue/tan or yellow/black than red any day, but I realize I'm in the minority. (My Pantera is dark green from the factory... and I actually knew that before I got it!)

Long live Giallo Fly! And hey, last year there was a special class at Amelia Island JUST for these jewels. If THIS 308 had been there, a trophy would go with the car.

    I agree.

Nothing wrong with red 308/328s, but the cars actually look much better in blue, silver, black and several other colors. Yellow is a good choice on 308s.

I agree. The yellow is really really nice, but probably not the most popular choice of a wannnabe 308 buyer in this particular price range. But a car this thoroughly redone is a prize catch in 2009 in any color.

I would think that anyone looking to pay 360 money for a perfect condition 308 is well past or above the "gotta have red" syndrome. A buyer for this yellow car probably has at least half a dozen other perfect condition classics, or is at least no stranger to Ferrari ownership.

The "gotta have red" buyer is often times the first-time buyer, who has to have a Ferrari -- needs that badge, that "status", and to be able to say "I own a Ferrari". No first-time buyer is going to take a second look at this car, as there are too many 308s and Mondials for $23k with shiny red paint (and unknown histories), and too many shinier red 308s at classic car dealers for $35k complete with colorful eBay descriptions. This yellow GTB is an aficionado's 308, and is an absolute bargain for the perfectionist collector. :)

I agree that, from a strict design perspective, red is not the best color for the 308. It has too much detail and too many curves -- both sweeping and subtle -- to be flooded out by bright rosso corsa. The 308 looks best in black or a metallic blue. Phrogs, I envy you . . . but only slightly! :)

If someone with the money had any "brains", they would buy that car for as much as possible to "set the standard". That single sale could inflate the value of ALL 308's dramatically in a single move, overnight. It would be even better if there were a "1" in front of the starting price. God knows he's certainly put that amount of labor into it.
