Just thought I would get the thread ready for when someone dies in that tunnel. Driver or corner worker. Why don't they at least hang a crane from the ceiling so they can quickly lift the car out of the way so cars won't end up stuck in pit lane.

Let's hope it never happens. Who signed off on that anyway? Max?

Not a clever way to start a thread.

That tunnel is safe. Much safer than the one in Monaco given the speeds etc.

They have done proper research and the best designed the circuit. I'm sure everything will be ok. Just because it's something new and different, doesn't mean it's automatically unsafe.

    Poor thread title...

You've been listening to Rubinho whine a little too much, eh?

Junglistluder is there to see the race; sure he can shed some light on it upon his return.

Unless he is sat in the tunnel how can he shed light upon it? The best place to judge it would be the TV coverage.
For the record i think the tunnels great, tricky with a hint of danger but great.

I don't think the marshalls are in danger much. Firstly, they're protected by a barrier...

If they have to get over the barrier because a car spun/stopped in the tunnel there's someone waving a flag and stopping a driver at the beginning of the tunnel. Nothing to worry about.

Hang on, i have just heard/seen Martin Brundel do a lap of the circuit. He said the pit lane tunnel speed is UN LIMITED!!! Wow that changes things, i thought it was going to be a part of the speed limit restriction area.

Love the track, although the pit tunnel appears to be a widowmaker design!

The pit lane tunnel speed is somewhat limited by the lack of grip there. However the whole place is built to a level where most of the other race sites simply pale by comparison. LH seems to be enjoying himself there...

Agreed on that, but to be honest I was somewhat disappointed: The place looks very sterile and bleak. I read that the thousands of palm trees they planted need another year to grow (right now they're those stubs lining the track) so hopefully it'll look more interesting next year.

The hotel and harbor looked great, but apart from that it was Bahrain version 2.0.

PS: Is it just me or does that Ferrari theme park look like a giant version of one of those conference phones from Nortel? ;)

Hope not; as the rest of the track is rubbering in. The BBC guys said the pit out section is very slick (slippery) ...

Not sure about the phone but to me it looks like the gigantic flag the tifosi parade around with at Monza.

Good comparison there, Nortel indeed! Just looked like a flag in the brief BBC image...obviously much more than the TV view showed! Thanks

You must have missed it because the BBC showed it in full from above.
The whole roof also had a textured surface to it. And they said its a kilometer wide.

All I caught was one tight shot of the roof and the shield there.
Just the minimum...in Canada the network leaves after the last car crosses the finish line in qualifying. No interviews with the top 3 drivers, nothing. F1 race on Speed TV is now blacked out to. In the past you could flip back and forth from BBC (ITV) during commercials...

Yea i was a tad disappointed my self because the BBC did not show the press conference. They wanted us to use there website to see it. Some times thats easier said than done.

So we just need Alonso to pit early, then Grosjean can shut down the pitlane tunnel........
