At one time I was seriously looked to purchase a Ghibli. I drove about 5 of them, but was always disappointed with the handling. I was never convinced that it was an inherent issue with Ghibli's or if it was just that the particular examples where not well sorted. Your picture on the twisties brings this issue to my mind. How well does a well sorted Ghibli handle around curves, etc. (They drove just fine on a straight line, but then again, so does a muscle car. It's around the curves that you have the real fun). Alberto: Ghiblis are obviously stunning to look at and one of the all time Maserati classic GTs but as you found out don't handle very well, they are heavy and unresponsive. A Khamsin is basically a much refined Ghibli with far better handling, the experience behind the wheel is as though you were in a car made 20 years later, however you still have the same great 4.9 liter as in the SS, dry sump the same charisma but independent rear suspension as opposed to de Dion, much better suspension geometry, the brakes are much more efficient, the sterring is far more precise, the clutch is feather light, all thanks to the hydraulics which are easy to get used to perfectly simple to maintain and reliable there is no comparison. A friend of mine who is both a brilliant mechanic and excellent driver who has had a large number of classic Masers just calls Ghiblis trucks and loves his Khamsin. He loves to surprise modern Maserati owners in the French club with the fact that he can keep up with them on the road and they don't dawdle I would not normally intervene here but you specifically mention handling and once you try a Khamsin you will be stunned, believe me There is more information to be found in my site Maseratikhamsinregistry.com and in the Khamsin discussion here which is at almost 1500 posts. And remember that Marc is not at all biased I learnt something new though from your post Marc, I always thought the Ghible had a live rear axle, not a de Dion set-up, the former can be made to function very well indeed.

Thank you Marc for those pictures! It's a great pleasure for me! Yes, you're right, the others photos where at the circuit de Bresse during the Maserati days in May 2007. It was the first time I drive the Ghibli. I bought her at the end of 2005 with a brocken engine, I have rebuild it and it was ready one day before the event at the circuit de Bresse! It was great! Glad you like them! That is just a pocket digital camera, no zoom. Yes I was really keen to come to Charade and catch a ride on track, I live just two hours east of there right now. I was there from the drivers meeting onwards till late afternoon, Mr Lasartigues the club president kindly invited me. I am not a member (yet). I got a ride with M.B. in his 300S replica and it handled really well, that was fun and what a great circuit! I recall this subject in an earlier post here. But now I found the complete feature of the German magazin HOBBY from the early 70ies that reported about the famous but rather msterious Ghibli-Firehunter car that was used by the ONS who was responsible for motorsport events in Germany at that time. It is unknown for how long the ONS used the car and what happened to it. Ciao! Hi Walter: Since I had to talk to Mr Cozza on an unrelated matter and saw this post I asked him about this Ghibli. He answered that he was aware of it but that there is nothing on it at Maserati which he says means that the ONS bought a Ghibli in Germany possibly a used one and had these modifications done by themselves or another company but certainly not by Maserati. The other firefighting Maserati we all know about the series 1 Quattroporte pick up is now at Jean Guikas place in Marseille where I saw it June 23rd. Photo enclosed. The yellow Ghibli spyder is 1005 and in the third photo is a Ghibli project Jean also had there, Vin unknown. It was a strange 24 hours, the day after I drove the Bora Group 4 at the Paul Ricard for the Classic & Sports car article I visited Guikas GTC that morning, saw his incredible collection and in the afternoon went near Cannes to interview for my book Dominique Drieux who was Citroen's man in charge of accounting and personnel at Maserati 1968 to 1975. These are some photos of Ghibli # 054. According to Mr. Cozza this was the 12th Ghibli made. In addition to the drop down rear trunk lid and dual front calipers, which are normally found in early Ghiblis, this car has a few characteristics which I have seldom seen. One is the lack of air scoops on the hood. The other is the design of the center console, which uses the same chrome trim used to outline the dash to also outline the console. I think this console design looks more elegant than what was adopted for the production models. I recently bought a 4.7 Ghibli and I'm looking for some information about my car. The car is supposed to be one owner from new (I'm the second), I'm doing some research about it. As it needs a new paint I'm wondering if someone know what was the original colour of the car. Any help or additional information is welcome. It's a Swiss car from new, now located in Geneva, chassis AM115490.
