9k miles - is it too much for 06 430?

From what my service advisor told me, its actually better to buy a ferrari with moderate miles (not to high and not to low) he said he see's more problems with the low mileage cars that sit most of the time compared to the cars that are driven more frequently.

 

I sold my 07' F430 Spider with 15,000 miles, and it ran better than new. As long as the price is reflective of the miles, it is not an issue.

I bought my '05 new and it now has 17K on it including about 1K of track time. It just keeps running better all the time. It's also a manual and the clutch shows no sign of wear yet. If you are looking at a car that will soon be out of warranty, more miles could be better. Bottom line is, if you like it, buy it. Don't worry about the miles. You should also benefit from a lower price vs a 2K example.

9k is not excessive - there are many cars on here that have many more miles!!

 

What are the chances your 360 has more miles - if it does is it worn out ? Of course not and if anything the cars are becoming more resilient

 

9k miles and the cars worn out? What is this world coming to. I think if the car had 9k track miles it would be an issue. But unless the car resides at the nurburg nordschleife in a garage with slicks I dont think you have anything to worry about.

 

I'm coming up on 5k miles on my '09 and it runs better than it did when new. I think these cars want to be driven.

 

Only with a Ferrari would such a question be asked..... amazing.

It's... a car! A darn good one at that. Geez just buy the thing.

 

A good rule of thumb is 2500/year is reasonable. A bit more is fine as long as it was well cared for and the price reflects it. last year, I turned down an '05 612 because it only had 600 miles on it. That raised a red flag in my mind.

Negotiate a good price and pull the trigger!

90K miles is a lot. 9,000 is just broken in.

9,500 miles? On a 3-year-old car with a sticker price of, what, $265,000? Yes, it is absolutely worn out. Useless. A complete trash heap. It will fall apart of its own weight any minute now. If you try to start it, the bearings will fail and c-rods will fly everywhere, and that clear engine cover won't slow them down at all. Trust me on this one; don't risk your safety.

I'll be by with my dad's pickup truck and flatbed trailer. I'll give you $150 for it, which is twice what you would get from the OTHER guys who drive around with flatbed trailers looking for wrecks, but I like you, so I'll give you a good deal. Then I'll haul it straight to the crusher, where they'll give me $300 and mash it into a small cube--the only prudent fate for such a clapped-out relic before somebody hurts themself with it.

Presumably everyone here is a Ferrari owner right? I appreciate all of you telling me your opinions and I have come to the conclusion that I owe everyone an apology for trying to pull the wool over your eyes by listing my high mileage, limited production Ferrari for sale at $159,995.00. It is obvious to me now that the car is junk and I need to seriously pawn off that old jalopy for half price. I accept full responsibility for buying one of a 375 car production run (one car per million US residents) and then having a 3 year long brain fart and actually driving the car putting an absurd amount of miles on it. What the hell was I thinking? I further apologize to the fine folks at Ferrari for disrespecting them by not actually realizing how fragile their race car is and even though I took great car of the car and never tracked or raced it I feel as though I have abused it.

I have placed a new ad on Autotrader and reduced the price to $149,000.00 (cant find a way to modify my FerrariAd) in hopes of finding a blithering idiot with some cash out there who would be stupid enough to buy my beater. Also, in the sprirt of competition and to generate some interest in my totally stock and never modified CS I have decided to install some illegal headers and remove the precat so the "Check Engine" lamp will illiminate. By violating federal law maybe my car will get the "bad boy" image everyone likes and I can finally rid myself of that old clunker.

I wrote this rant about my CS that is for sale with 19000 miles on it. No one will buy it because it has "high" miles on it. Ridiculous. I mean, what was I paying for...a car I cant drive? Then car is tight and bulletproof and I have never had even a glitch with it. So where does the perception that these cars are so fragile come from? These cars are top of the line and born to be driven. My car seemed to get better with age much like a fine wine does so there is no need to be afraid...go after what you want and enjoy.

 

In my experience, most Ferrari owners are not really "car guys" (i.e. gear heads), but rather rich guys that want a Ferrari or other exotic car. I think this is part of why there is the misconception that 15K+ miles is the end of the world. Most things in life are driven by fear or greed. I suspect when you own an animal like a Ferrari, yet have no real working knowledge about cars, motors, etc. then the thought of something breaking is very scary as the miles increase.

The irony is that in most cases, the cars which are actually driven are probably in better overall shape. I see Ferrari F40's with less than 1000 miles on them all the time for sale - what a waste. I would no sooner want a 700 mile F40 than a hole in my head. But show me a guy who has an F40 with 5000 or 10,000 miles and now I'm interested.

It's a shame to see amazing streetable race cars such as the F40 and Enzo rotting away in air conditioned garages. It's even more troubling when people are scared to buy a Ferrari that has over 15K miles on it.

At the end of the day, it's just a car. If it breaks, fix it. In the meantime, enjoy it.

9k miles is low miles imo thats hardly any miles per year, like others have said a car with mileage and maintaince will be in much better shape than the one with 2k miles and no maintaince.these cars need to be driven and enjoyed and not garage queens.good luck on the search.

Your problem w/selling your car is not the mileage or the car but the price you're looking for. CS w/20K miles is $120K, on a good day. Like everyone has said on this thread, mileage is not an issue so long as it is reflected in a lower selling price vs. the avg. mileage for that car of that given year. Overall avg. mileage for U.S. ferrari's is about 2K miles/year. Best.

BD- You could sell all the 20K mile Stradales you could find for $120K. Good luck on finding any.

SD- Copy your old ad, delete it, and put in a new ad. Sounds like a nice car. My 2004 575M has 16,500 miles and runs great.

I would add 'condition' to this statement. And as other have mentioned, get a professional PPI regardless of mileage.

 

We drove our 599 9K miles in the last 4 months. Runs better than ever.

I know of a man in Italy who drove his 599 90K miles (!!!) in the last 3 years with essentially no issues.

Ferraris are cars. Very nice cars...but still cars.

Modern Ferraris are no less reliable than a high-end German car (if not more). If well maintained, 9K miles is NOTHING.

See if this F430 was used properly. If the car was driven normally, I don't see the issue. Buy it and enjoy for many thousands of miles

Over 10000 miles per year is a red flag

But consider the car as if it were a girlfriend:: Not driving your Ferrari is like not having sex with your girlfriend so that she will be less worn out for her next boyfriend.

I have a 95 F355 with 57K miles on it, and nearly 5000 track miles on it. This summer I drove it over 3,000 mles on one long (4-week) trip. It is running better than every after this long drive--even though 2.5 days of it were spent driving through 2 inches per hour rain. {Moral: Its a car, drive it and it works better}

 

Odd analogy on both counts.
