Hi all. I would like to introduce myself, after quite some time as an observer of this forum. I am a relatively new owner, had my first months in a Ferrari this summer. It is a 82 EURO 308 GTS QV. After some years of planning and deciding I found the car matching my profile. Ferrari 308, red/tan, spider, QV, euro, so there where no more excuses and I made the leap. After buying it I did a major service, changed wheels to 16" and put on a new stainless steel exhaust. The whole experience has been very exciting, but inspite some fears and concerns it has been fantastic. What a car.... It feels like starting a spitfire every time I start her up and head for the winding montain roads in my area. The smell of oil/fuel/leather when I open the doors really kickstart the whole driving experience! I have heard the car manufacturers have people working on "new car smell". Why cant they just copy the 308 smell? Do all Ferraris smell like this? Also; I would like to thank all you good people on this forum, it has been a real help going through posts here to get answers to my questions, both before and after the purchase. I am really gratefull for this support.
Congratulations on your new toy! Sounds like a nice ride. Im not sure if all these 308s smell the same, but I do know the smell you described. Enjoy your ride and if you can, post some pictures, we always love pictures! Oh, and welcome aboard!
I beleive that in 1982(late) there was only Euro production cars. For US spec cars 1983 was the first year.
Here are a few pics. From my investigations they made 185 QV Spiders in 82. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice car and happy that you entered the Cavallino word. To drive a 308 is an awesome experience, but like you, on my first drives I was bit a little bit scared... New car, new reactions, you don't know the reliability... But after that, it's fantastic. Enjoy in good health!
Congratulations, a really beautiful car. I also have a red '82GTS Euro (serial # 42995)--and my great-grandfather was from Norway (small world). Enjoy driving her. The end of this year's driving season is closing in on both of us. Having a Ferrari in the garage make's the wait for spring even harder. Eric
Congrats, on the Euro. But I may be a bit biased. I know what you mean about the smell. A guy I know had his entire interior redone. It looked great but he was unhappy because it did not smell like the original connolly leather.
I'm happy for you,I miss mine so much can't wait till things get better for me to get another one, enjoy it
Heres's a pic of the engine during and after the major service. It really is a QV.. joy Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Joy, that's so sweet and clean engine. This is the first time I've seen an 82 QV. Rare model usually have higher value. Drive her in good health.
Congratulations on your 308 purchase. On page 34 of the book, Original Ferrari V8, by Keith Bluemel, it sates as follows, "...at the Paris Salon in October 1982, when the Quattrovalvole (QV) models were announced." So, indeed you have one of the very first QVs! Check for your production number. The production number location is depicted in the photo below. It is found in the black area where it looks like a small 1" square red area was left unpainted. Then, list this car with the 308 Registry. http://www.308qvregister.com/WebMainPages/308_gts_qv.htm A fellow Dutch F-Chatter, Hans T., keeps a registry of 308s as well. Again, congratulations on your new purchase. It looks like you have a very rare car on your hands! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Additional information... My car is registered as a 1983, even though it was manufactured in 1982 as well. My car, a Euro 308 GTBi QV, was the 48th GTB (of 84 that year) produced in 1982. It was manufactured in November, 1982 one month after the QV was introduced to the public. There were a total of 3,042 GTS QVs manufactured from 1982-85, and a total of 748 GTB QVs manufactured from 1982-85. And yes, your car is indeed rare because it is a Euro and a QV, as well as being manufactured in 1982. Congratulations!
