I see! Long ago in the Evo, the aircon cut off at high speed and I thought something was wrong with the system. Hahaa! So this is safety feature?
there are reasons for ac on and off I wont go into the "power drain" part. On the track, with ac on, the windows would be up. The theory is that if you were knocked out cold, safety marshals would have difficulties reaching you to give you assistance. However, with the windows down, it would also mean you arms could be thrown all over, including out of the windows... so both theories have plus and minus points. I drive pretty hard on the track, so I am off... I have seen a replica ac cobra go off the track and roll, the owner had not tighten his helmet and it came rolling off. We reached him to put out the engine fire and left the marshals to aid him. He has since recovered well.
