    Good evening Gentlemen,

I am currently facing an intermittent problem on my 2007 F430 F1 which I have noticed over the last weeks. Occasionally it won't accept reverse and stays in neutral. Anybody had the same problem and how was it solved?

    Regards, Tarek

I used to have this similar problem before where F1 won't engage to reverse and stays neutral. I notice this happens when F1 gets really hot after hard driving. The only way I can get out to R is to shift gears from N to 1 and then switch to R. If you let F1 cool off a bit, it will work again. If this problem do persists, you may want to have a qualified technician look into it.

It did happen after driving for about 30 minutes and the engine was hot (at operating temperature). Next time it happens I will try the shifting from 1 to R.

Anybody know why this problem happens when the engine is hot?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

430 will only go into reverse if it senses the foot brake, sometimes if u press on it too lightly it doesn't register. donno if this is ur case, worth a shot.

I have few expenrience about that. After drive a long time, the clutch disc and flywheel have little bit deform so you shift to R but the primary shaft still rotate about few hundred RPM or the leakage of the thrust bearing. The clutch cannot fully disengage. It can be check in SD3 parameter after drive 30mins.This problem sometime happen in F360.How many mileage of your F430??

Search here again, a few members had mentioned it around a year ago. I think it was the switch had to be replace under warranty if I'm not mistaken.

#1. The rear engine lid is possibly misaligned . . . the car thinks the rear lid is open and will not allow you to select reverse (safety feature on the 430) no joke!

#2. The F-1 actuators (sp?) are not operating correctly . . . No reverse can be the first sign . . . this is NOT good !!!

    Hope this helps.

had this problem a couple of times. a tech at a Ferrari Dealer may need to check the actuator screws. they tend to come loose. perhaps they can bleed it as well to get some air out if there is any.

If the actuator screws had come loose, the problem would be apparent regardless of tempreture. If the tailgate switch was not working properely, it would fall out of gear, not fail to engage reverse. It could be clutch drag (otherwise known as PIS too low) or an issue with the slave, or a leak. If it's a car fitted with the later TCU cal. a DEIS procedure can be carried out. Any of the above symptoms need to be diagnosed and repaired with an SD3.

True on the Maseratis as well. When I worked at Ferrari of Denver, several cars came in with this problem and it was annoying for everyone - especially the owners who sometimes had to tow the cars in! Quick fix, though.

Hi, I’m curious about this as well. My car start to develop this problem. It won’t go to reverse after about 30 min drive. It tried as you can hear the shifter tried to move to R to no success and then just go to N. If you shut it down and wait 5 minutes it goes back to normal.
