Are dealers starting to take deposits?
My dealer said they will not take a deposit now nor will they take a deposit in the future. The reasoning is that there will be other dealers with "deposits" and "lists" of people wanting the 458. There will also be dealers that use "deposits" to game the system to get more cars. Evidently, Ferrari will be watching this very closely with the 458 and the "extra" allotments are going to dealers that do not play the "list/deposit" game. Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer and I'm not speaking from the point of actual knowledge on this subject. I'm simply passing on what was told to me. However, I'm sure that if you order a white 458 with brown interior and no shields, I'm certain the dealer will take a deposit, more like the full payment up front. I would be seriously cautious before putting a deposit on a 458 without the actual paperwork that shows the dealer allotment and a car reserved in your name. Ask the dealer to show you the allotment sheet by month as determined by FNA and I'm sure you'll take the conversation up a notch. The dealers know who the buyers are.
I can't imagine anyone forking out $25/50 K as a deposit, which might be held by a dealer for a year or more, invested earning a return. But some kind of deposit, even $5K would seem reasonable because it quickly selects out all the Fwannabees who are reluctant or unable to part with $5k. It's amazing how many just have to have the new car but balk at a $5K deposit. In this sense, a deposit plays a 'gatekeeping' role, making a "list" more realistic than every wishful thinker on the planet.
I am confused or probably not following developments. This is the first post of the Megathread the 430 replacement, from 08-29-2005! I cant believe it.. I just got back an email from Scottsdale Ferrari (where i purchase my first 2003 360) I asked them if they were taking any deposits on the NEXT GENERATION CAR AFTER THE F-430. To my surprise, i was informed they already have 150!! deposits, that is their complete alotment. And needless to say the F-430 is completely sold out. Is this possible? 150 deposits on a car that is at least 4 years away from production. Assuming each person gave the customary $5000.00 deposit, thats $750,000.00 the dealership gets to sit on for at least... 4-5 years. Wow, what a business!! This just might push me over the edge. (Luke I am your Father!!) Believing this, maybe it's time to make a deposit on the 456 replacement...
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but they are going to start delivering 458's next year. Summer in the U.S. and even earlier in Europe.
He's saying that 4-5 years ago, there were already 150 people who had put down $5K deposits at his local dealer on the 458, at the early start of sales of the 430. People who are wealthy enough to routinely buy the newest model of Ferrari from a dealer (and there are many) do not care about a $5K deposit placed several years away.
I've heard as much as 30K required for an actual allocated car, not a phantom order. Seems some have been pulling out of their commitments lately.
No dealer is taking deposits or orders on the car until 2010.Anyone that tells you that don't know what they are talking about.I get tired of these dumbass know nothings,Talking all the time.I will order one when the options list comes out and thats when you will know.If you have not ordered a Ferrari from the dealer before,You are not going to get a 458 unless you buy it used
KING MONKEY: That is the same that my Dealer said. He was told by Ferrari not to take ANY deposits. They do have a list of "interested buyers" but no deposits.
That is Scottsdale Ferraris standard schpiel they give. Penske stores always take money on anything... there view... they will just refund it if they have to and have you sign the most ambiguous contract stating that whatever you put your money down on may not exist. They have been taking 5k deposits on cars forever. 150 cars is not there entire production run. They stop taking deposits on cars when lists go to silly lengths... I used to work for penske... our MINI store ended up with a 2 and a half year long waiting list (about 800 people with paid deposits). The longest deposit I have ever seen was for the z8 replacement. I saw a z8 replacement deposit just after they stopped production of the first z8.... and the list has grown... and the first guy is still on there. Where it gets confusing is when the z8 replacement list gets combined with the "next m1" list because it comes out first...
Hmmm, I have a signed order form from my dealer after they took my 10k deposit for a 458. I also have not ordered a Ferrari from this dealer before, only a Maserati. I dont put much faith in "the list", but they did take my deposit. May want to check your facts before wielding insults next time.
You biblical assertion may apply to the US (ie., US-centric views) but does not hold in many other countries.
I would be the first person to buy or order the 458.Even if I had to pay in full today and wait for release in 2010-11.I'm tired of the yackers
Yep, same here. I asked my dealer how much they wanted for a deposit and they said "thanks but no thanks, can't do it." It will be interesting to see how this plays out and who get's their 458's first.
