Just wondering. If you had a CS with a radio, would you put a 360 dash into a CS for a "cleaner" look?

If you were married to Heidi Klum, would you encourage her to have plastic surgery to look like Rosie O'Donnell?

No, but I might suggest that she have that ugly radio pod hanging under her chin removed. After four years, I'm still pondering unhooking mine and storing it away....

Alright, alright.... Sheesh, sorry I asked. I was just looking at the CS radio and it looks like it shouldn't be there. I just thought that replacing a CS dash with a 360 dash would give a cleaner look, other than ditching the CS radio. Is the 360 dash that much of weight gain?

@Nerd: Thanks for understanding what I was refering to.

Sorry if I offended any CS owners.

If by "cleaner look" you are referring to all your friends looking at you with a blank WTF look on their face, then YES

The simple fact is that if you fit a stereo into a CS the weight is actually *more* than using the stock center console from the Modena!

    What....!!!!

It may seem strange to some people but the original CS car concept brief was designed without a Stereo to be fitted AT ALL. This redesigned lower dash was to allow the racing 360GT to holomogate the changes for racing so it never needed a stereo pod. In other words the CS dash was never intended to have a stereo fitted! It was only later 'retro-fitted' back into the car by order of the Markerting dept after it appeared to 'hardcore' for a lot of Ferrari customers.

That is why you don't have the stereo pod. This is the net effect of adding the stereo box, rear center subwoofer box, (to house the speakers relocated from the original modena Doors cards - the carbon doors didn't have space for speakers, this was only later added as an option on the 16M carbon doors). In fact it adds significant weight because the center console subwoofer box and the stereo box weight all add up!

The resistance you see from 'purists' isn't about weight reduction its about 'differentiation'. There is no doubt about it but using a console from the Modena would just look too 'Modena' looking! I agree, the CS dash design is clean and pure (provided you don't have a stereo fitted! - otherwise it looks like a cheap add on more akin to old 80's French Renaults... sorry).

Technically it also wouldn't work because the whole 'lower' dash structure was replaced so you cannot just bolt in a new one without having a old Modena dash from which to start. Its not an easy (or cheap) thing to do and I imagine Ferrari felt the same about trying to fit the Modena lower dash versus the Stradale lightweight version.

Like I said, nobody could do it even if they wanted to without spending a silly amount of money. Ok, its not impossible but a LOT of work for nothing.

    1. The carbon central console between the seats contains the window switches on the CS, the Modena switches are located in the radio panel center console! You'd need to relocated them but then you'd have holes in your carbon center console, or youd have holes in your radio panel! Plus the wiring looms are different too.

    2. The dash board lower section IS DIFFERENT. You'd need a Modena lower dash. The cost is expensive and you'd need to take out the entire dash to do it!

Basically nobody is ever going to go from CS dash to Modena dash...

Thank you very much 306trev. I appreciate your time and explanation. You're a class act. I'll be sure to purchase a CS without a radio (for a clean look) and then find a top rated stereo shop to install an Ipod. Cheers!

You won't need a radio/iPod, you've got a fantastic orchestra right behind you. I've only ever turned my Modena radio on once, and that was just to make sure that it worked!

@FerrariDublin: You didn't read 360trev's posts. I couldn't do it if I wanted to (aside from it not being worth the hassle).

360Trev: I just found the famous thread of your build (Modena CS). Amazing! For those that could not envision what I was refering to please see 360trev's dash/interior. Inspiring!

No, I read the lot. Possible, but difficult and expensive and not worthwhile.
