Almost ready to buy 360, still confused

    Hi Everyone,
    I am at the point of negotiating on a 2004 360 spider F1 with 14,000 miles. Everything checks out well-service history, clutch, belts etc. There seems to be a wide range of thoughts on pricing. I have seen some posts saying you can get a 430 for low 100k (I have not personally seen that) and that 360 spiders should be less. Others say you get what you pay for and if you pay low you will make it up on repairs. I have posted this question before but will ask again as I am still confused in reading posts about pricing. What is reasonable for this car?

    I have done considerable research on this topic. I have looked at listings at the various Ferrari dealerships. I have looked at ebay listings. I have looked at autotrader listings.

    My extensive research indicates that the car you are looking it is worth EXCACTLY what YOU think it is worth! :)

    On a more serious note, if the car checks out properly, if it is within your budget, go for it!

    $95-$115K Depending on dealer vs private sale, options, condition, etc.

    I have to ask, have you been looking at any of the car websites or Ferrariads to see comparable cars?? This should give you some sort of idea on the market. Whatever they are asking take 5% off without hesitation and then work from there.

    My guess on the car $115k-120k.

    Thanks for all the input. I do agree that the car is worth what I am willing to pay. As for website listings I have been looking for several months and the asking prices are all over the place from 96k to 159k so it is hard to tell what the cars are actually going for. I suspect the 95 to 115k number mentioned is probably accurate.

    One word of caution, and as was mentioned. No matter what the history shows, get a PPI!! (I know someone personally where their 360 had a great service history, sold by a FCar dealer, price was great, CarFax was clean...but had a later inspection done on the car and it was suspected a repaint of the total front end and drivers door for some unknown reason. The car at that point became worthlesss).

    GET A PPI!

    If the car is a consignment car thru a Ferrari dealer would everyone feel comfortable getting PPI done by that dealer?

    Worthless??? Maybe WORTH LESS, but hardly worthless. Even if the repaint was poorly done it can be REDONE to a high standard for some extra bucks and then the car would be great. As long as the cars integrity and driving were not compromised some cosmetic work (even from a minor accident) seems reasonable to me. Again, it should have been disclosed and the car discounted accordingly but to say it is "worthless" might be taking it a bit far.

    I'm having trouble understanding your concern.

    If you want a 360, buy one. If you want a 430, pay more and buy that.

    If you can't afford or don't want to spend as much for the 430, you know what to do.

    Looking for a decent low ball 430 is going to be much more difficult than looking for a great 360.

    Both were excellent cars when they left the factory floor. But, you already know that.

    You should be less worried about possible depreciation and more worried about the quality of the car you are buying.


    There. I have ended your confusion. Now, go buy something.

    I strongly disagree. If the dealership performs the PPI they would have a vested interested in painting the car in the most positive light possible.

    Unless I'm wrong here...

    it sounds like you really DON'T want a 360 but would prefer a 430 --but at a 360 price.

    Wouldn't we all....

    My advice.... buy what you what you really want and in the best condition, color combo, and options you can afford.

    Sorry about the confusion, my car of choice is a 360 spider. I just used the 430 post as an example of what I have read on the forum.

    I am also in the market for a 2002-2004 360. I live in SE Florida, and in NY-CT for the weekend and after a lot of looking around and research, be prepared to spend about $100k for a true car with records and a number of the standard upgrades. The problem is that all the 360's for sale have been purchased by dealers and individuals start at around the $150k and work their way down. The only answer is find your car from the seller who can accept a grader level of pain. Take your time. You will find your car, the economy is not getting any better in a hurry. Dave
