    Well... I lived in the sticks, and outside of the CBD, people were generally a lot less aggro on the roads. And I avoided driving to the dodgier areas, like... Richmond. Your car should be fine as long as it's garaged! If you're really paranoid there are a few secure parking facilities in the city where they actually lock up your car in a separate area.
