I am planning on eliminating the secondary air pump and lines on my car , my car doesn´t have cats. Any help on this issue? Thanks
Very cool! Looks like a lot of intricate and hard work! Will you also be replacing the clutch/flywheel during this major service? Any pictures of the engine/gearbox numbers since that stuff is visible/accessible in the car's current state?
If you remove the air pump and hardware, you will need to fab up some block off plates for the head ports, not hard to do at all. Getting all that crap out of there really cleans up the engine bay too.
Pros and cons of removing the air pump equipment. I am thinking of doing this when my car goes in for her 30K... Dr.Ferrari get ready... this winter shes coming... Hope you can fit me in.. R
The air pumps job is to help reduce emissions during warm-up, and get the precats and cats up to temps quicker. After that it's just extra weight and clutter. If your state has emissions testing, you probably should not remove it. Other than cold starting / warm up emissions, there is no reason to keep the air pump on the car in my opinion.
Hi , When i bought the TR it didn´t have the air pump , just the surrounding hoses and valves. So i think that it´s easier to take the rest out like carguy saied. I will post some photos of what i have.
Here is the photo of the engine number . I will post a photo of the gearbox number later. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Since i don´t have the air pump it´s easier to remove the rest. On the next photo you can see a unplugged black connector just above the oil pressure valve. It was always like that since i have the car. Does it have any relation with the air pump system ? Thanks for your help Vitor Image Unavailable, Please Login
I spent some hours cleaning the cylinder block !!! We took the cam covers out and voilá!!!!! The flat twelve in all it´s glory !!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
great work! Be careful of jacks. Even jack stands will tip over too. I have heard horror stories of jacks failing and it happened to someone in my neck of the woods. Jack stands toppled over and crushed the guy.
I believe that that is the connector for the air pump electromagentic clutch. If the wire colors on the two wires in the harness are ZN (violet/black) and RN (red/black) that would confirm it. Here's a shot from Jeff Pintler (circa 2004) where part of the connector is just barely visible at the left side. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you so much Steve ! I will confirm it tomorrow. It´s a great experience to work on this engine . You get to know your own car even better!! All the best
