I'm currently writing an article about the four Fiat Dino specials. When I asked Pininfarina about them they didn't know where they have gone. I can't imagine them scrapped because they were such important and beautiful designs. Im talking about the following cars:

    - Fiat Dino coupé speciale 2 posti, first shown 48th Salone di Torino, 3-13 November 1966
    - Fiat Dino “studio di linea”, first shown 54th Salon de Paris, 5-15 October 1967
    - Fiat Dino berlinetta, first shown 49th Salone di Torino, 1-12 November 1967
    - Fiat Dino Ginevra, first shown 38th Salon de Geneve, 14-24 March 1968.

I'd love to know their fate! Many thanks for any help.

    Best regards, Peter

I'd like to read your article when it's done, Peter.

Hard to believe that Pf doesn't know what became of these cars. I seem to remember seeing pictures of at least one of them at a show in the last couple of years.

Two of them have a Maserati Indy-esque look to them. All of them are very beautiful, though.

Bottom picture looks like the Morretti.

Red one has an interesting feature that only a few italian cars had , the half sized flip up headlight cover. Also used on the Alfa Montreal, Series two Iso Grifo and Iso Lele

They indeed look very similar. Only on the Morretti I think the nose is closed off by a piece of metal whereas the Dino has a regular open grill.

That Pininfarina Coupe treatment would have been so much better than the Bertone designed model. The Bertone Coupe has grown on me over the years, but the Spider is really something - I was always perplexed as to why Pininfarina didn't design the Coupe.

Interesting note, we had a Iso club member put his car (Dino coupe) nose to nose with an Iso Grifo and it's amazing how close they are in design. Iso Grifo was Bertone's favorite design and IMHO one or the best designs ever done.

Yep, agree on the similarities. I do like both the Grifo and the Dino Coupe, but they have a lot going on...not as flowing or curvy as the Pininfarina cars.

True, but IMO this is what makes them special. This was during the period when car design went from full curves to straight edges and only a few cars fell in the middle combining both. Both the Grifo and the Dino coupe show the genius of Giugiaro design.

The Iso Grifo's balance is perfect and it is one of the only cars that looks good from any angle. It is a masterpiece of car design.

    Peter,

All prototypes were based on 2-liter cars.

The white "Studio Linea" is most probably used to build the red "Ginevra" soo this car wouldn't exist anymore. After the "Ginevra" no showcars were build anymore.

On the other cars i have to search my files. You can contact me directly if you want Peter

Yes, I have seen numerous cars with the hardtops. The first dino I ever drove had a brand new hard top that had never been used.

I think they used a hard top at LeMans.

Yes the hardtops do exist, my own Dino had one but being a convertible guy and never seeing needing a hardtop, I sold it about 10 years ago. They are very hard to find but there are 2 for sale, one in Tx. and one in the UK. Not cheap and shipping will be a killer.

Its VERY similar to the factory hardtops for the 124, it wont fit of course but it is so close to the 124 hardtops from the factory that it looks like it will fit when you compare the 2 tops side-by-side, the Dino top is longer since the cockpit is longer and the windshield curve while very close is wrong. Pretty sure the rear window is the same in the factory 124 and Dino tops, I could not tell a difference with the 2 tops next to each other. Since you can't get rubbers for the 124 hardtops to make the windows seal, its safe to say you will never find it for the Dino top.
