http://auksjon2.oslobilauksjon.no/cars_info.php?car_id=6208 Urraco for sale in norway.. It is on the Lamborghini Registry but i havent subscribed there.. A early car.. Note the badge on the luggage compartment... Daniel
Ok, here it is. My 1972 Urraco P250 with my 2 front Bravos from a 1978 Countach lp400s. Here's what we learn....for those Urraco owners with a set or two Bravos wheels hanging around collecting dust, I'm not sure 4 front Countach Bravos will fit. Let me explain, the front wheels fit and spin. I am not sure about turning. This is because the rear wheel offset is incorrect for a p250. The outter part of the inner wheel will rub/grind against the lower control arm(?) or rod where it mounts to the spindel. A slight offset will work or even a spacer, though I'm don't usually recommend them. There for I could not drive or even turn the steering wheel for futher front information. BTW, I think they look great on the car and if I could get the correct offset I would consider a set and put the prototype wheels with the correct Michelin aside.
im a bit confused, they rub on the rear or front radius arm? those look fantastic on the car... if there is rubbing try the silhouette size fronts which are a 1/2 inch narrow at 8x15 rather than 8.5x15. do the rears fit ok? what size tires you running? i recall 205-50-15 for LP400S. later OZ types are 225-50-15 which would be nice for the rear of the urraco indulge us with some 3/4 angle shots to see how far they stick out? if your were gonna do a custom set with compomotive you may consider doing a 16 inch bravos which would be much easier to find suitable tires. according to someone on F-chat, walter wolf had some custom made 16 bravos for one of his 3 factory specials before the became standard firmament on the LP400S. i dont know for certain what tire he used back then because there werent very many street tires available for very wide rear of a CT. if you do a shilhouette size 16 bravo i would be interested in a set. regards
The rears are the ones that won't spin. The Countach Bravos are 8 1/2 inch and, yes, a 1/2 inch less would fit, I believe. I would stick to the 15 inch wheel as it doesn't look as modern as the 16 & 17's. Yes the correct Countach tire is a 205, which I prefer, however, I'm stuck with the more common 225's.
Hello.. I am going to change the head gasket on my urraco. and wondering if there is something i need to adjust the valves? In norway we call it Shims. To get the valves correct adjusted we have to add schims to get it in the correct position with the camshaft.. Do i need a shims set specially for urraco? thanks in advance sorry for my bad english. Daniel Skulstadberg
Daniel, pm Mike from Ohio, USA. He works for Evans Automotive and he is on this board and owns/rebuilt an Urraco. And hopefully some others will give there advice.
You may get lucky and will be able to reuse the shims. You won't know until you reassemble it. The Urraco and Jalpa used a different shim type than the other cars of the period (on top of cam followers rather than below). I haven't worked on any Urracos here but the shims look similar to those used on a Countach QV, Diablo or possibly a Ferrari 308. Measure them when you have it apart. If they are the same, they would be relatively easy to get if you need a few.
so how do the front wheel look like? do they stick out when viewing the car from the front? any idea on the offset of the wheel? old campys sometimes have stamped or cast "ET" in the inside of the rim. check the sundail for the date of manufacture while your at it.
Mike at evans eutomotive highly reccomended me to change the valves as well on my urraco as the OEM sodium filled valves brakes easy.. I have heard discussions about that issue before on urraco and that you need to change them when the heads are off.. Mine are going off for the headgaskets so now maybe is the time.. Here comes the questions.. Where to get these new valves? Is there any other valves from fiat, alfa or anything else that would fit? Do I allso need to change the valve adjustments when changing to stainless valves? best regards Daniel
Valves aren't hard to come by and can be sourced from a few places. GT Car Parts in Phoenix, AZ. (623) 780-2200 is a good choice. There are probably places that your machine shop knows of there in Norway as well. I wouldn't expect that valve clearance specs would change with stainless valves.
Sorry to hit the Urraco & Jalpa thread. Urraco and Japla owners sometime do not look at each others threads. Will these work with the Urraco P250? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lamborghini-Jalpa-Front-Strut-Mounts_W0QQitemZ160385446699QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2557b7b32b
Yes, 1990's VW Corrado. I bought these KYB's and the work quite well. Remember, these cars are not serious performing cars and to spend big money on struts is useless. http://www.amazon.com/KYB-364014-GR-2-Cartridge/dp/B000C42RFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1260926825&sr=8-1 Also, while you are at it, buy a Mercedes 190 steering stabilizer and install it. It's about $20us and takes 5 minutes to install. Follow this for installation, it is very simular. http://www.jalpa.ch/Struts/index.html 2 very important things you must do. Find a machine shop that can grind down the shoulder of the strut (right below the threads) about 3/4 of an inch. I had a hard time find a shop the can do this as most said no. AND drop a washer (a little less than the diameter of the strut) in the original strut before you drop the new insert in. This will lift the insert up a little bit. I need to go back in and tighten the threaded cap that holds the insert in. So tighten it back up good. A BIG thanks to Joe Frazar for this info and, I think, Raymond for his photos to refer back to. Cross reference the strut spring. Strut inserts from a VW Corrado, Steering stablizer from a Mercedes 190, brake calipers from a BMW, strut springs from a............. Strut springs from what car.
ok i see... i always used cross references instead. anyhow, you can get nearly any rate or length spings these days for about $50 a sping. check ebiach etc... although i may be wrong, im not sure you would want to use the corrado's sping rates anyhow...the cars are vastly different in everyway dynamically. take your stock spring to get em tested to find the spring rates. old springs typically dont lose there stiffness although they may sag.
It is great to see friends helping each other out and sharing ideas on how to fix the cars and save $$$. With the internet, I have had other Lamborghini members help me out quite a bit. The help (technical threads) saved time and money. Why re-invent the wheel ? Keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone know if the Cylinder Head bolts have to be tightened after engine has been driven some after changing head gasket? Seems to be impossible with the engin in car.. Daniel
