It was big and had radials. It appeared to be natural metal with a big red vertical stabilizer. I was pretty far away, though.

I believe "Aluminum Overcast" is wondering around Texas for the month.

    www.flyins.com usually has the schedule

That could be it. I was in Leander. I would guess the plane was over Georgetown. My brother said he saw it while he was near I-35 & 79. I wish I had seen it from close by.

Edit: I just looked it up. She's in Georgetown for the weekend. They sell rides. I gotta do that sometime. I recently read that you can buy a ride in the back seat of one of the Me-262 replicas. That would be wild.

If you are going to do it and can pick, take either the nose or tail.

EAA makes you sit in the radio compartment or waist gunners area at take off them you can move around once you are in the air. but you cannot get to the tail gunners area

I flew in a B24 a while ago in San Diego....Had to sit during take off/landing, but could roam around during the flight. sitting out back behind the tail in the tailgunner turret was AWESOME!

Imagine a string of FW190's coming in with blazing 20mm cannons blowing holes in your airplane while they are still out of range of your Cal.50's. That is what you as a tail gunner would face in 1943-44. Not trying to be nasty, just painting a picture of what it was like then. Once in a while the tail gunners would blow a few holes in the fighters but not very often.
