Never mind the culture shock, I'm amazed the climate change didn't kill 'em! :D

You talking about Alabama to Scotland or Louisville to Shreveport? :)
    Either one works.

I would say Alabama to Scotland would at first be mind blowing due to the cultural shock, quickly followed by mind numbing due the lack of temperature! :D .

I can hear the conversation now:

"Jeez, how cold is it here?" whilst shivering.
"Och!, you should see us when it's not a heatwave!"

:p Actually, it was more like...

    *moves from Alabama to Philadelphia*

"Howdy. Cold up here, ain't it? Ck - ck - ck..."

"You racist prick, we'll have none of that KKK crap up here!"

"I'm not racist. And I'm not saying 'KKK', those are my teeth chattering together."

"Quit talking at me with that Southern drawl! And what do you think of finally getting to wear shoes?"

"For the moment, I'm not sure I have the option of responding without a Southern drawl. And what do you think of Alabama conducting the research that put man on the moon?"

    "Think you're clever, do you?"

    "Well, yes, actually."

    *punch*

Oh well... as I said, that one was a rough transition.

:D that made Me laugh!. Glad to here you survived the transitions (all of them!).

I bet it was quite a challenge understanding the locals in Scotland when you got there ( if it was anywhere near Glasgow, I'm surprised you didn't just get on the first plane home as that's gotta be one of the hardest accents to understand!).

Er... actually I'm in Glasgow!! :D

And yes, it is a challenge understanding them. When Glaswegians are either drunk (but happy) or angry, their mannerisms and slurs sound indistinguishable to the uninitiated. In time, you do learn to spot the subtleties that tell you whether you should prepare to duck or not. :p

On the whole, it must be said, Glaswegians are quite friendly people. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Thanks, I'll try to remember that. :D

I've just realised how badly I've somehow managed to derail the thread, so back on topic.

I think Button will have a good time at McLaren, though he'll be hard-pressed to beat Hamilton. Having said that, he's a bit better at chasing a lead than defending one, so we should see some exciting driving from the pair.

    Roll on 2010! ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

He'll also undoubtedly score more points towards the WCC for McLaren than Heikke was able to manage, so that's a win for McLaren and it looks like a good place for Jenson to serve out the remainder of his career.

My wife spent time in London as an exchange student. Her favorite headline was "70 degrees, third day in a row. No relief in sight."

So he hasn't ACTUALLY signed yet?

I wonder if Jenson does sign, Kimi will regret wanting to much money.

Button's going to make a good number 2 driver for Hamilton. Pretty Ironic the number 2 driver with the number 1 on his car.

Don, Button was a worthy champ IMO so was Hamilton.

I hope they both get a fair crack off the whip @ Mclaren.

But it will possibly end up back to the Mika DC days.

I'm sure he does not view it in the same light? He makes more to sit out next year then anyone is willing to pay. He is in the best possible position.
I would still be very surprised if he does not end up driving for Brawn. Kimi has enough money, but to work with, A) Mercedes technicians again, and B) Ross Brawn...I can see were this would be a compromise he is willing to make.

With RD back in the pic you may be more right than you know... Not to mention the fact he is very protective of his protoge that he has nurtured for many years.

After all Mac have their pick of the litter and are very much in the driver's seat with regard to selecting a driver alongside Hamilton.

Button was equal performance-wise with teammates that have been blown away by others (like Alonso). Considering the problems Alonso had dealing with Hamilton as a ROOKIE getting his feet wet, I predict Button will have MASSIVE problems matching Hamilton's pace.

In a way it very much reminds me of when Keke Rosberg went to Mac in 86 to partner Prost. You've got a solid, but not superstar driver coming off of a WDC coming in to partner an established ace. It ended in tears for Rosberg and he got duly blown away by Prost...

I like Button. I just don't think he has the raw talent, pace, and killer instinct possessed by Hamilton and I see him getting blown away next year.

    Just how I see it...

Good points, but I think that some of that has a way of working against Hamilton at times when he takes chances or lets his emotions get the better of him. I almost thought he was cured of it this year until his crash on the final lap in Monza that kept him out of what was up to that point a well deserved podium. You'll recall he was chasing Jenson for second place when he really didn't have a chance of catching him, much less passing him, and slipped a wheel of track in the lesmos putting him hard into the tire barrier. If he can't cure himself of those kinds of errors, Hamilton will have a tough time repeating as World Champion in my view.

Pretty much my take on it as well. The ironic thing is Button keeping calm running steady picking up points in the later races of this year gets blasted for not trying to win every race, Hamiltons problem the exact opposite.

Saying that in Brazil Button showed he can go for it.

Risking being crass and commercial might not Ron be looking at the benefits of having a British WDC on the team?

Hey Steve, I can see you point about Button, he is the WDC at the same time he did not win a race in the last 10. He also only got one podium in the last 10 also. If you look at McLaren IMO the car will designed around Hamilton's driving style not Button's. Button's and Alonso driving style are very similar while Kimi's and Hami's are as well. Hamilton proved the he can adapt and win in a car that is not built around him. During the last half of the season as the car changed Button suffered while Rubens came into his own in the Brawn and kept pace. This to me will be Button's down fall, his first the ability to adapt to a car that is not built around him, second his ability to adapt to the car as it progresses during the season.

I don't think Hamilton is going to be the defacto number 1 its just going to come to him as the season progresses.

    Just my reasoning

    cheers
