    I've got a '99 355 f1 spider.
First issue i don't understand is the recirculate function only works with the a/c stop buttoned depressed. As soon as i release the stop button the recirc door swings down and is longer active with the recirc. button. Is this a normal function, i hope not. I would like to have the a/c recirculate the cold air..
    Possible fixes.

    Second
Does anyoune clean the filter in the gearboxes when doing the oil changes in them. i'm planing on doing a oil change in the near future. Need to know if i can get to it and do i need some replacement gaskets..

You may need to check the actuator arm inside the trunk, under the trunk lining. Check to make sure it isn't broke or stripped. You may also need to take apart your a/c ecu and clean the contacts??

A search of the archive yielded this:

As for cleaning the gearbox filter. The 355 gearbox is similar to the 348 gearbox. There is a plastic mesh filter that is on the inside of the gear box. The only way to get to it is to crack open the bearing side cover, on the gearbox oil pump side, and take it off. Plus the only thing that filter does is help prevent large bits from getting into the gearbox. It's nothing like an oil filter for the engine. So don't waste your time trying to "clean" it.

    Ok on the trans filter..
As far as the Recirc motor, It's working as i just replaced the motor with a new one.
The problem is when the a/c stop button is released to activate the a/c the flap will move to the non recirc position and can't be made to move with the recirc button.
Depress the stop buton (a/c off) the recirc button becomes active again and will cause the flap to move in the wanted position.
Help .. going to need it this summer. i know the ac will blow alot cooler with it in recirc..
    Thanks

hen the stop button is depressed its functions

The filter screen in engines and transmissions (Almost all of them have them) in cars are generally not meant to be cleaned as a service item. They really are designed to limit further damage in the event of a catastrophic failure and are meant to be cleaned during that repair or to inspect for debris in the diagnosis phase.

Prior to the 360, Ferrari transmission filter screens required removal and at least partial disassembly of the transmission to access it. That includes your 355 so if cleaning it means that much to you, you have a big job in front of you.

Did you look at the Air Conditioning section in the owner's manual? It states that if the recirculation button is released and the external temp. exceeds 70 (21C) and the internal temp. is less than 77 (25C) the A/C ECU selects recirculation. If I'm "looking" at the situation correctly, and your ambient temperature is as stated, then it seems like normal operation.

All-in-all I don't like how the system operates. I would be quite happy with full manual control and no "climate control" and the associated complication that goes along with it.
