    On the inletmanifolds in my 308 there are some small tubes connecting the inlet channels with each other on each cilinderbank. The end of the tubes are blinded by some rubber cap.

    Does anybody know the function of these tubes?

    I decided to replace the one piston that was severely beaten on the head by a broken valve.
    Today i made a start. Pulled the tranny and after removal I examned the piston just putting a saw in it to really see the damage.
    I was actualy in shock! See the picture. A large lump of material is almost pushed out completely.


    BTW suspension work is done now. Heading to engine and electrics.

    In my everlasting haunt for three pcs. rims I found two sets recently.

    one, a set of 16" Gotti's, is currently on transport from Germany, the other carries a nice story

    I found an ad on ebay for a set of 2pc of 12x15" and 2x 10x15" 3 pcs BBS's with tyres and, and this is maybe the nice part to tell, with an almost complete KOENIG 308 kit.

    The guy actualy purchased the set himself in 1985 but with the massive increase in ferrari-prices at the end of that decade his 308 was worth more money without it so he took it of and kept it in storage since.

    Now it came with the wheels.


    I know many hate what Willy Koenig did in the old times with our gorgeous 308's but looking back to that period it definitely was part of ferrari-history.

    Anyway, i'm not sure if i'm gonna use it for my track-308 but the thought of doing that makes me a bid confused..

    What do you guys think?



    Meantime the engine is building up again. shortblock isready, new piston, new clutch,
    Now I'll start with putting the heads back together. I also performed a visual inspection of the gearbox.

    could wait to tell you.

    remember the sad story of my car which had her ended up in a sit in the open air for more than 5 years.

    Knowing the electrics of the 308 are to say the leist not the best in town i was actually a bit squared to start with it.

    Earlier i made my own new fusebox which accepts blade type fuses and just this evening I took the plonge and put in a new battery.


    What do you think? Almost all electrics actually work!
    Few exceptions:
    the left window, the right small light in the door and both headlights. (They do pop-up but won't shine.)
    Even the fuelpump started pumping (flooding the garagefloor, thank god I quite smoking sometime ago:):) )

    Some relief as I, in my mind, was heading for anther big job before the MOT

    as i'm waiting for more parts to finish the cilinderheads this weeken I did some work on the waterpump. After investigation I ordered new bearings and interior parts.
    Then I had a look at the fuel and waterhoses in general. Most needed replacement so I spent quite some time looking for local vendors. I found them eventually!

    Rest of the time was more for visual purposes.
    Did some poulies, the watertank, the distribution covers and the timingcovers.
    All were blasted, primered and painted

    ThanX Baker, always nice to know someone is appriciating the work and writing of it;)

    Today my earlier "catch" from Ebay arrived. They look very nice indeed and will be added to my meanwhile quite impressive (ahum) collection of 3pcs rims. How I love these Gotti's!

    Yesterday i found an exhaust for a gt4 whch will serve as a MOT-test-pipe.
    Tomorrow I'll heading for England to collect my Königset and the BBS rims.


    Meanwhile all parts to finish the engine has arrived so from next week on I will spent less time on Ebay and more in the workshop....

    I bought my first 308 a couple of years ago. It too was headed to the junk yard. I'll have way more times invested in it than what it is worth and you know what ...... WHO GIVES A POOP!! I have a bond with the car, nursing it back to health as my pocket allows, that cannot be beat. It is MINE ... in body AND SOUL.

    In that Ebay picture the rear fender parts are shown the wrong way around.

    cleaned up the engine bay
    replaced all hoses and put some coating on the steel. Pulled both tanks and got rid of some water(!) inside. renewed the fuellevel measure thing and renewed the cv joint rubbers.
    did some general visual "upgrading" on a lot of parts and started with cleaning the carbs.

    but mainly: had a wonderfull time doing all this! Working on a car so neglected like this was is just so rewarding! Everything you touch is an upgrade almost instantly.

    But what does MOT stand for??

    Actually, yes. I think you are having way too much fun in this project. I need to see a snapped-off bolt or a bent thing-a-ma-gig to be sure you are really doing this yourself. If you don't end up with 3-6 extra bolts or a special sprocket, you just aren't doing it right.:D:D:D:D:D

    Yes mate....... definitely interested. I find it magical when cars on deaths door are revitalized back to good health.

    I know from past experience it takes a huge effort to document such a project and many time you are asking yourself, "is this all worth it?" The long and the short is ....YES it is and you will get great pleasure in seeing the end result when it finally arrives.

    Keep us informed as you are doing a great job.....

    What are you using to clean the carburators and aluminium parts. Are you blasting, and if so what material, glass, wallnut shells or are you using some chemical procedure?
