It's come up in a few threads, so I thought I'd post a link to the YouTube video that shows (not very clearly) Tex Johnson rolling the prototype 707. Included in the clip is a little interview with Tex and the famous photo of the 707 inverted over Lake Washington.

    Enjoy

Gotta love Tex for even trying it. I could tell his response at the end, "It was fine" was the PC thing to say. But I am sure every time he took the controls he itched to do it again.

Boeing says that they applied the lessons they learned in the B-47 design to the 707--which made it a better aircraft. The B-47 had to pull some Gs while extremely heavy in order to do the low level bomb toss (This was during the period that SAC transitioned the B-47 to low altitude bombing). I bet he could have done a cuban 8 with the sucker.

Actually the B-47 did a half Cuban 8 in the bomb toss. A Boeing engineer and test pilot by the name of Dick Taylor perfected it.

"Lob Bombing"! That was the term I was looking for. You truly have an encyclopedic knowledge, switches!

Naw. I just have a lot of useless tidbits that I can make small talk with at cocktail parties. Thanks, but if you have been hanging around as long as I have you are bound to pick up a few things. The other nuclear device delivery technique was the " Over the Shoulder Toss" where the target was over-flown and passed. Then a loop was performed and the bomb was tossed back at the target near the apex of the loop and the airplane continued the loop and left. That B-47 should have been termed the FB-47.
