The 599 GTO thread has gone out on so many tangents that your opinion on this really interests me- I'd love to see this car made as a true homologated 599, such as a street legal 599xx. That is the only way I can see Ferrari justifying adding the GTO. I'm afraid though that we all might be aiming too high. Many of you will not agree with what I'm about say, but a 599CS seems much more likely to me given the proposed cost. When I ordered my 599 a few years ago, I HAD to order Carbon Ceramic brakes because Ferrari had overproduced the ceramic brakes. Given the world economy, I think it makes sense that Ferrari would build another 599 model to simply sell more cars. A CS version would be an incredible machine. I think shooting higher than that is probably just dreaming, because an Enzo replacement isn't so far out. Respectfully- SBF
Why would anyone including myself pay 500K+ for a CS version of a 599. When I can go out today and buy a 288 GTO for almost the same money?
Different market. People where saying the same thing when 599 was commanding 500k+$. It was almost F40 money yet several were exchanging hands. I agree though that it will depending how extreme this 599 is to justify such a price. Unless it's something mindblowing, a GTO or a good down payment on an F50 would be a better idea.
Whats that 500K 599 selling for today? Lots of 07's in the 230/250K range. Thats a pretty big bite even for people who have the money. Given the current economy I don't see many buyers at 500K and up for a CS 599. A car that will probably have depreciated like a stone within 2 years even with limited production . Once burn't twice shy is the saying. But, if Ferrari produces a GTO version with all that means in the ferrari world. Limited, stripped and race capable directly off the showroom floor and raced competitvly in its own class. Then not only do you have something that is extremely rare given how many GTO's that have been produced to date over ferrari's entire history. But also a car that would hold its value fairly well and heaven forbid might even actually appreciate in the future. I believe this is the crux of the matter for most interested buyers at this pricepoint. There would also be many buyers willing to pay substantially more than 500K if this is the real deal. I just don't believe that anything less from Ferrari with or without a GTO badge on it would enlist the excitement generated in this forum to date or sell particularly well.
thats why it is known as a "depreciating asset" or in the case of a lease a "liability" Ferraris are made to be driven and enjoyed... not as a investment piece. Nobody in the engineering department is making sure that the car retains its value or increases in value over the next 3 years etc... this making money on new ferraris is alot like making money on spec houses... there was a rush of people who have never been in the game who think that the last say 8 years is the way that it is supposed to be and always has been... and then there are the people who have been around the block a few times who saw this one coming... and won't mind that the cars lose money... because thats what new cars do... depreciate. The people who still buy are the loyal ferrari owners. The ones who buy it for enjoyment (whether it be sitting on a pedestal in garage or chewing up a set of tires every 2 months) and not for pure investment.
Even if this 599 isnt a GTO, and even at $500k, Ferrari will sell everyone of them if they keep the run at 500+/-. I dont think we will see what you are wishing, a race capable car unfortunately. My guess is that this car will be closer to a 599 CS than what we think of a 599 GTO.
I understand the Car will be more a CS or Scuderia version and not badged GTO, it's rumoured to have some 680BHP, list price is estimated at around £300k ($500k) in the UK
Why would Ferrari make a "lightweight" version of a nearly 2-ton GT car? It seems like a ridiculous starting point. I'm sure someone would buy it, but it seems kind of like a Range Rover Challenge Stradale...
You said it! A bit shorter and more concise than I was able to do too. I think 499 599CS at $500,000 USD would sell out instantly. This leaves the GTO nomenclature for a future (non 599) homologated model that I think will end up being considerably more expensive. -sbf
I'm fairly confident it can easily be as light as 1500 KG without making it seem like a complete all out race car. I'm not sure of the weight of the 599XX but I doubt it's more than 1300 KG. I like the 599 but I'd much prefer a CS version of it.
Trust me, when the Lamborghini LP670-4 SV is selling for close to 500K, I'm sure Ferrari can sell the 599 GTO or whatever it is called for that price. You can't compare old car (288 GTO) vs. a new car. You have to compare new cars against new cars. If you had 500K to spend and was in the market for a new car, what are your choices nowadays? Think about it.
bentley supersport is in same category. car is luxurious for comfort but too heavy to be fun so they make 'sport' version that is neither.
