Feel down from the top of the back of the seat along where the metal head rest rods enter.

    PUSH HARD.

You will feel a "bump" somewhere between the top of the seat and several inches down. The top of that bump is the headrest detent.

Push IN HARDER STILL (toward the front of the seat) and have someone else pull the headrest up and out.

The headrest will come up/out, but it may take a few tries with resulting tired hands and/or thumbs.

My is a 1981 GTSi NA version. That is how I got mine out for re-leathering. YMMV.

    Best of Luck.

goodluck. on my 81 gtsi i had to remove the seat back covers and remove the upper leather so i could get to the circle clips that act as the stops for the notches in the head rest rods. there was nothing to push. jon s

    Riggo,

Sorry as I am in Ukraine with marginal I-Net access at the moment. Had a hell of a time getting here (took two days from Germany) to boot. :(

Did you get the headrest out of the other seat?
