I went into my e-bay acct. yesterday and found that someone apparently hijacked it and put a Mini Cooper on there for sale (see link below). I immediately deleted the listing and changed my password (I have had my acct. hijacked at least 5 times over the years, so it was not a HUGE surprise). Then went to e-bay's live help and simply wanted my listing fees waived as I did not list this item. I explained the problem to person #1 who transfered me to person #2 who I had to explain the whole thing all over to. They transfered me to person #3 who I had to explain this all to again. This went on and on until I got to person #7. I told this person NOT TO TRANSFER ME AGAIN as I have been transfered 7 times, been on line for over an hour and I am not happy. This person in the trust dept. asked, "did you list such and such", I said yes. He said that the Mini Cooper was listed from the same computer. I said impossible. They said it DEFINITELY was. They said they could not remove the fee as it was my problem. I said that I have never owned a Mini Cooper and for them to do a title search and see who owned the car. I know this would not PROVE my case, but would help. Then they said they would remove the fee but also all of the other items listed by that computer and that computer would be barred from listing any items on e-bay in the future. I said unacceptable. After 1.5 hours on line w/ these people they finally agreed to remove my listing fee w/ no strings for the Mini, but they basically had the attitude that I was lying and were only doing it cuz I was so persistent. My question is, why is their "intelligence" telling them that it was listed by my computer when it absolutely was not? I do all of the e-bay listings in my office and noboby else here has access.

It's possible that your office PC is infected with a trojan that is using it (or giving remote users the ability) to make these bogus listings. Seems likely since you've had so many issues with your account being "hijacked" in the past.

I'm sure Ebay records the IP address of the posting creator - and I'd assume they are telling the truth when they say that all of the listings (the legit ones and the bogus ones) were made from the same IP address.

Do you have any idea why you account keeps getting compromised? I've been on Ebay for years and have never had that problem.

In the past, I let others here in the office do listings and re-listings as we always have 5-10 items on there at all times. What happened was they fell for the bogus scam where a person claims to be e-bay and they need us to sign in and "update our account" and they then had our password. I now do all of the listings myself. Thanks.

Good anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewall and keeping them all up to date. I've downloaded trojans before and RARELY does it get past my defenses.

Also being mindful of what types of sites you are on and what you are downloading will keep the majority of trojans/malware away.

Some trojans can be a pain in the @$$ . I had a friend download a "anti-virus" that was actually malware which disabled things like control+alt+delete making it very hard to remove.

If that's the case a simple google search will find 100s of other people who ran into the same problem and a solution.

If they are flagging you based on your IP address you need to be aware that they are talking about your "public" or internet IP. If you are on any kind of network then the public IP of all of the computers on your segment of the network will be the same. This means that another computer in your company may be the one that is compromised. Could also mean that someone in your company listed a Mini using your account. ;)
