I will be rebuilding the front/rear suspension of my Countach this winter and have a few questions about how to refinish the various parts. My personal preference is to powder coat these parts, but will that be detrimental to the cars value because they were originally painted? What about using a bit of color (somewhat tasteful instead of garish)rather than all flat/satin black? Is that something that will detract from the overall value of the car? Any suggestions or opinions??

Also, when I am done with the suspension, a professional respray of the car in the same color (black) is something I am considering. Does a correctly done repaint devalue or improve value if it is done for cosmetic purposes instead of re-covering body damage and repair areas? If it is resprayed with modern paint, is that bad compared to respraying with the old laquer formulations??

I want the old girl to look nice, I don't want that at the expense of reducing her intrinsic worth. Any input on this would be very much appreciated!!

What will be detrimental to value are colours or textures that are not original. The suspension components were painted in semi-gloss paint and there would be not affect to value if you used semi-gloss powder coat. Powdercoat is fantastically strong and will maintain a perfect look way longer than paint ever will. As for a correct re-paint again there is no loss in value here especially if you use modern paint. There are arguments each way if a non-original colour will affect value and realistically it is a divided argument so you are not likely to affect value.

Joe, definetly one of my fav colours for this car. Similar to the one we discussed a while ago that was/is in Toronto with the handicap controls?

Well, I can tell you that this same "home-made" unit (as you so eloquently put it) is/was also on Countach LP400 1120104 (last known to be with Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton) and Countach LP400S S1 1121014 (ex-Steve Dypvik).

I'm still in touch with Steve so I can ask him who put it there.

Yes, any blue color is cool on the LP400.

The car you are speaking of is now Ayad S's car (1120172 ex-Paul Marshall), but it started off Blu Tahiti, and has now been restored to a slightly different metallic blue as you can see. Also the original Tabacco interior was replaced by a cream colored upholstery of which Im not sure what the color is called.

Interesting thing about 1120172, it has the exhaust 'box' muffler, but the muffler is split into two distinct boxes. Hopefully you can make it out in this pic. Rare application.

Would be interesting to know who put these megaphone pipes on these cars.. and who build them.. it looks very cool on a S1 too, same as on a few ferrari 288 GTO's: very nice.

It is 1120172 that has the interior changed from Tobacco to Cream.

    1120154 has a white-and-blue interior.

Yes the car looks very nice indeed.

The 288s such as mine are Ansa F1, a sport exhaust option, tuned and very well-made.

The ones on the Countachs under discussion are something custom made, a little on the crude side.

Now I think of it, the standard Miura exhaust has split muffler boxes too!

On the blue Countach subject, here is a car identical in livery to 1120154. Except, it is not in the USA, its in England, and it is RHD! Registered BVU 985 N as seen at the 2008 Goodwood Revival, is this 1120094? Can anyone please confirm? TIA.
