Can anyone point me to the procedure on how to wire permanently open the muffler bypass valves on a 550? I think I found the procedure for the job on a 575 here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236340, but I am not sure if the same applies for the 550. I seem to recall that on a 575 "no vacuum" opens the valves, whereas on a 550 it is the other way round. But I am not sure.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Rik- The two work exactly the same except the 575 has a more sophisticated Motronic that opens the valves from idle to 1000 rpm and from 2720 rpm up with 64% throttle and the 550 only opens them at a similar medium rpm and wide open throttle. Bypassing either is exactly the same.

    Thanks, Terry!
Is there a way I can electrically control the bypass solenoid, rather then rerouting the vacuum hoses? It would be neat if I could control the solenoid with a small switch, inconspicuously mounted somewhere in the cabin.

OK, I managed to reroute the vacuum hoses. Exhaust note at idle is definitely louder. Actually, for the time and cost involved, it is probably the best exhaust upgrade you can get. ;-)

I think I will install a toggle switch in the cabin, which will bypass the ECU wiring and activate the vacuum switch directly. I just don't want those vacuum actuators to get frozen in their open position. The switch would allow me to "exercise" the actuators once in a while.

Rik- One of our European 599 FChatters has a switch for his valves in the cockpit. You can also adapt a Corvette aftermarket wireless bypass available widely, including E-Bay. Capristo valved exhausts are also available with an optional wireless control and Capristo might be willing to sell you the remote and solenoid alone if you ask.

    Thanks Taz,
As luck would have, a fellow 599 owner stopped by at my place this evening. He also has a bypass switch in the cockpit.

For any 550 owners with a switch, where did you source 12 volts for the solenoid?

I've looked for key on 12 volt source in the trunk/rear area but can't find one so far.

Rik- One other thing. No need to worry about your valves getting stuck in the open position. They are sprung closed and opened by vacuum. As soon as you shut down the engine, the vacuum source disappears and the valves close. When you bypassed the solenoid, all you did was provide a vacuum source whenever the engine is running. No engine, no vacuum, valves close.
