I'm very much in the market to buy a 308 GT4, and I need to convince my wife that the kids could fit in the back. My children are 5 and 3 and would be driven for short journey's. I live in Newtown, CT. This is in northern fairfield county. The car that I'm interested in would be fitted with shoulder harnesses in the rear (or even 5 point harneses).

If anybody has a 308 GT4 that they wouldn't mind showing me and my wife, and enjoy's over embelishing the "family" virtues of the car, if you get my meaning, I would love to meet up!

    Thanks,

    Chris

Have you given Pete at Forza Motorsports a call? He's in your neck of the woods and have some Mondials (no GT4's right now) to try the back seat. He maybe able to locate a GT4 for you.

Mondial is better in rear seat room
The Girls can even put a couple of a accessory teenage boys in the backseat.
And already has rear shoulder harnesses.

No, the Mondial has tons more room. And I haven't been able to get an unmodified child seat to fit in the back of the GT4. The Mondial seats have a conventional "L" shape that is more conducive (sp?) to adding a booster seat, etc. The GT4 has a seat that is more "(" shaped. Looks cool, doesn't work for kid seats.

But if you really want a a GT4, don't tell your wife any of this. Someone here did a five pont kid harness in the back seat of a Mondial, but you could do the same in a GT4. Probably not legal, but probably safe.

I just now (20 minutes ago) got back from an 85 mile loop in my GT4 with my wife and 2 kids. I had shoulder belts added in the rear and they will work with my booster seats but not full blown car seats. My kids are 6 and 4 so they're in boosters now.
    It's tight but doable.

I used to have a GT 4 , and would not hesitate to put people inthe back seat, Kids or grownups , as long as they are not 6` + and 300 pounds.

Are you going to mention to her the virtues of a 30k mile service? Good luck!

Thanks Hans, the next time I'm in the Netherlands (which would be my first) I'll look you up! Some years ago I used to work for ASML and I never took the opportunity to visit when I could have! C'est la vie!

    -c

BTW, I am completely in love with your car! So if by some miracle I cross the pond and hook up with you, don't leave me alone with her!!

Come to Indiana! My car is a few SN's newer than HANS' (the older brother). I'll let you and your wife see it and drive it! :) The only problem you'll have now is the snow that is not that far off...:(

Ok Chris, here's the deal. Get two buddies to show up one with a 308 and the other with a GT4.

Explain that these cars have finished depreciating and will most likely hold their value or appreciate. Point one.

The DECIDER, show her the back seat room in the GT4, then, ....the back seat room in the 308...She shouldn't have any trouble deciding which car whe wants to put the kids into :)

    another chris

This is kind of like dressing little kids for school, you know would you rather wear the levis this morning or the cords....decision time.

    Good luck

Great advice Chris! My buddy from NH has an '85 308 and came down 2 weeks ago. Needless to say we had a great drive. When we got back I figured he should take her for a ride, she'd love it! Well that back fired completely! She hated it! She's rather practicle to say the least!

Ok, so....get what YOU want. She's going to hate your toy car no matter what.

    Just sayin'

    :D

Oh, and the GT4 rocks, but the leg room in the rear is nonexistent.

My advice is to romance her.

    Make her feel special.

Go the extra mile for her and she'll let you get the 308 gts you really want.

I had a 1977 308 GT4 in 1978. It was my only car, living in NYC, and I had two kids ,age 12 and 8, who were driven everywhere in the backseat. To this day they still complain about their "imprisonment" on long drives. The 12 yr. old, who is now a lawyer, threatens to sue for child abuse. Incidentally, the car cost new, $28,000. Sold it three yrs. later for same price. It' the only Ferrari that I did not lose money on selling. I'm on my 7th now.('07 430 CPE.) It's definitely the last. Trading up is getting more ridiculous.
