Not at all, it's like saying it's embarrassing to see everyone driving a toyota when you're in a Ferrari. :)

I've heard of it... But I spent my childhood playing soccer and badminton at the void deck with the other kids living around my block. Catching spiders seems mean :(

On a more serious note, I think you should send your son to Independent. It's an academically superior school to Barker. The teachers will be better, his peers will be more intelligent and more likely to be good kids (after all, academically superior students are usually the ones who are more disciplined and have their priorities right). I'm sure every parent worries that their kid might fall into bad company, and the chances of that happening are probably going to be lower in ACSI. The more competitive environment might also challenge him to push himself harder both academically and at whatever extracurricular activity he chooses to join.

While it's great to live next to school, I think the quality of education your son recieves far outweighs the convenience of staying nearby. Plus Singapore's such a small country anyway, he'll only need to wake up 15 or 20 mins earlier!

Unfortunately, traffic around that area is pretty bad during the morning rush hour. I'd budget for at least 15 minutes just to clear Buona Vista. And if you use Bukit Timah Road... Good Morning!! Other options: Boarding school or school bus (wake up at 5+am).

+1 for ACS(I) - Girls. Disregarding the traditionalists...
