I'm looking for various opinions and recommendations on Bourbons.

What's your favorite overall (price/availability no object) bourbon? Mine: Pappy Van Winkle 23-year Family Reserve. Definitely a special occasion bourbon at $200 per bottle, but the price of admission is worth the ride.

What's your favorite moderately priced bourbon? Mine: Maker's Mark. Not at all rare or unique, but very tasty especially for the price and quite versatile.

What's the worst bourbon out there? My opinion: While technically not bourbon, but basic Jack Daniel's is awful swill. What is ironic however though, I really like both Jack Daniel's Single Barrel and Gentlemen Jack, neither of which in my opinion taste anywhere near what "basic" Jack Daniel's tastes like.

I was given a glass of some bourbon to try not too long ago that I liked but have no idea what it was.

Mostly a scotch drinker here, but my friend's father poured me some Elijah Craig 18-year single barrel which was incredibly smooth and rich. I think the next bottle of scotch I kick will be replaced with some Elijah Craig.

+1 on both accounts. Tragically, I can never find any Pappy when I have an extra $200 :(

Not that I'd know... but Knob Creek is the pick of the litter, followed by Baker's; Booker's a distant third and Woodford Reserve should be used to clean the kitchen drain.

Jim Beam's Eagle Reserve is sweet and smooth... I hear.

    I take it back.

    I was being smartass.

Don't pour the Woodford Reserve down your drain, it will ruin your pipes.

Take it to the Toxic Waste Day at your local landfill.

    ...and this.

Booker Noe was a heck of a nice guy, Google some of his 'Bookerisms'....hilarious guy.

Jesse Dayton (sponsored by Jim Beam) has named his Tour Bus "Booker" in memory...Rest In Peace, Booker..

The best story, IMO was his wife making a Christmas fruitcake recipe with the 134 Proof, in error...it blew the door off the oven....no injuries.

That's pretty much all I drank in college.

So much so that I can't stand the smell of it or any whiskey anymore. :D
