My '95 F355GTS has started seeping what appears to be transmission fluid, and it seems to be coming from the seal where the shift linkage enters the transmission. Its running down and dripping off the crossmember underneath the car. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, any insight into how big a job this is to put a new seal in there? Can it be done without removing and disassembling the transmission? Thanks for any insights.

I did this last year and its an easy fix, the engine stays in. You need a new seal and rubber boot. First unbolt and Remove the single cross member that runs under the gear box. Then remove the gear change shaft linkage block from the rear. Remove the old boot by slipping it of, then pry out the old ring seal and replace with the new one. Slide the new boot back on. Thats it. The ring seal and boot takes about 10 minutes to do. Let me know if you require a picture of the seal kit. This is a very small job.

Sorry about digging up an old post, but though I'd let folks know this is one pretty easy repair. Mine was leaking a little too. I got the seal & bellow from GT Car parts. The seal is cheap. The rubber boot is costly for what it is. I probably didn't need the boot.

You probably need to drop the two side aero sides to get at the hex bolts.
The crossmember is held in by (4) 19mm nuts & a 10mm hex bolt. I think 10mm. It may be 9mm. My bolts had enamel in them so I'm not 100% sure and I didn't have a 9mm hex wrench.

The shaft linkage is held together by a 10mm bold & 10mm nut. And that it swivels out of the way is wonderful.

For the prying the old seal out, I used a Probe Spudger w/Wire Hook - used in messing with wires in a punch-down blocks.

To Press the new seal in, I used a 15mm box wrench over the shaft, pressing the seal in evenly- it went in nice.

maybe 60 min including cleaning up the crossmemeber - done!

BTW:the original boot has two small drain holes in the folds. If you use the original, have them face down. The replacment didn't have those holes.
