Its still an ugly 5 seat SUV regardless of its performance...why not just get a 5 seat M5?

It's C & D. They praise anything from BMW as it was the second-coming.

Handles as well as a supercar? Who in the right mind will believe that?

The skidpad rating is pretty impressive for a SUV, bodyroll looks minimal on the slalom as well. But holy cow, it's UGLY!

+1. M5 wagon if you need the extra room!

I actually think the X5 is the best looking of the premium sports SUV's. of course, that's like being the tallest midget.

$100k for an X5 is slightly stupid too. when they are $50k in two years, maybe....

nonetheless, 500+ bhp and 0-60 in 4.0 is pretty damn cool for a car that big. like a Bentley CGT on stilts :)

...and thus it's fantastic ability of making one feel sea-sick at the first corner...

I really dislike the high seating position of SUVs.

We had an ML63 AMG and then a Cayenne Turbo. Once the novelty was over, the both felt like fast trucks.

Sitting high-up is just not my thing. It just makes every corner feel worse than it should.

Given that the X5 is based on the 5-series platform, I'm not sure why everyone is calling this thing an SUV. For anyone that's ever driven an X5, they can definitely attest to the fact that it drives more like a car than a truck.

I think the X5M is cool. Pointless, but cool. I'm a pretty big BMW fanboi, but to be honest I think the nicest rig in this segment is the Q5

I'd say a Range Rover looks much better, but I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

The X5 does drive pretty well, but it's still no 5-series. It's still got a high center of gravity and body roll... so if you want a fast vehicle with good cargo room, why not a M5 Estate?

RR Sport is second on that list for me...

M5 wagon (estate) is not available in US, is it in Canada?

M5 Estate is not available in Canada and The X5 M has all wheel drive which is a huge plus over the M5 Estate if we could get it. Now a RS6 wagon would be the hot ticket for cargo space and all around daily driver.

So Sick of pointless minds wasting good broadband space with pointless comments..

If I like it and I want it, I will get it...
Thats What BMW is counting on, that is stealing me away from what I bought last.
In My case that was 3 SUV's in a row with over 450 HP.
3 years from now the bar will be at 600HP....I cannot Wait..

Why is there so much anti SUV sentiment in this community.
These people talk as if we live under a communist society

Freedom of speech is the equivalent of a 550 HP SUV
    Back off Commies

Performance stats of this car are great, but as far as looks, the ML63 and the Cayenne Turbo take the cake.

I would still take the ML63.

I still also believe that AMG is the only true "in house tuner" as they used to be an aftermarket tuner and were adopted by Merc, M is just a division BMW put out to compete with AMG.

You are starting to see more and more of divisions like these, (like the F line from Lexus, or the S from Infiniti), frankly it annoys me how these car companies just draw up a "Tuned line" mainly for marketing.

Though Merc has had some low times in terms of sales and quality, I will always think they are the best.

Aside from Frank, I didn't detect a lot of SUV hatred. I think people were merely point out that the BMW isn't really much of an SUV. It's strictly a pavement pounder that couldn't tackle much more than a gravel road. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Ehm, M5 is still the original racer-in-a-family-car car... M is the original. AMG might be older, but sh** got serious when M5 entered the scene.

You might want to do some reading on the M GmbH. Yes ... AMG was founded earlier, but a real cooperation between Mercedes and AMG came way after the M GmbH was founded (which was 1972).

The first couple of years the M GmbH had nothing to do with the road cars. Only when the M1 came out in 1978 did M actually have something to do with road cars.

    What are you on about?

    Had a 500+ bhp ML63 AMG. Didn't like.
Had a 500+ bhp Cayenne Turbo. Didn't like it.

I have experienced these "super-SUVs" first hand and just don't like them. Am I not aloud to?

Well I think SUV's have their place, and when you have 2 kids dogs and 8" of snow and every road you have to drive has hills and curves, well that is why I own a Range Rover and a second set of wheels with Nokian Tires for the Winter. I have watched (and owned and been in) Porsche, Merc, and BMW SUV's when they got stuck in snow that my Rover just plows through, so I'll stick with the big slow one.
