Countach, the ultimate supercar

i know of a pink 5000S with blue interior but not QV...
that would be too much to me

are you sure about the QV, Marcel? never heard of it

 

I remember seeing a pink Countach in Paris a long time ago. I think it was around 1985... Unfortunately, no picture!

 

Yes correct, not a QV, but an LP500S # 12555. Color-matched to the first owner's wife's favorite blouse as lore would have it, and now re-painted white (thankfully).

Also, around the same time, LP500S # 12576 was ordered in puke-beige with Tabacco interior, now re-painted dark blue (also thankfully).

 

I re-did my post after quickly looking up the chassis numbers.

Likely that's the car you saw because it always had a "GB" sticker on rear so he likely drove it abroad, and I have never encountered or noted another pink one.

i have a pic of the pink one somewhere...but never hard of the beige one...that indeed should be pretty ugly

A client of mine is thinking of removing the DOT side-markers on all 4 corners (the removal of the USA bumpers is an obvious) and the rear panel. Of course returning the bodywork to Eu/ROW spec means paintwork on all 4 corners.

Id like thoughts on what this does to the car's value.

- Enhances it because it is more aesthetically appealing?

- Reduces it because a virgin car now has some paintwork?

His argument is that the cars rolled off the 'line in Eu/ROW trim anyway (I'm not 100% sure about this) so all the USA bodywork crap should come off in order to rescue the car.

Everyone who posts here is an enthusiast, plus many owners, so Id really appreciate your input. Keep USA or go full Eu/ROW, and resultant impact on value?

Thanks Joe, I really like the SE30 in Silver, will check google for a few more pics and the SE30 thread. I like the viola colour and it works very well with the interior, I think i just like the rarity of things.

Those things are SO ugly, that no argument about "originality" need be made.

 

Always return it to it's original glory....whatever that may be.
Verification on how it left the factory is needed.

 

If done right, take them off...US cars bumpers and side marker lamps were/are just plain ugly. As far as paintwork goes...there are very few if any Pebble Beach winners that are in original paint after 30 or more years...and Countach's are very fragile cosmetically, so they are showing their age...do the job right, have a beautiful Countach and make the mark proud. Joe, that Red 88 1/2 is beautiful!

 

Thanks guys. I think what I'm hearing is the USA stuff is so hideous that it gives license for removal.

Actually I suppose the solution is to go is to keep that junk in a box as a souvenir for the next guy, and if they wish they can put it back on! Ultimately that will have to be my advice.

diablo30 SE, its amazing how just the USA side-markers by themselves mar the aesthetics of a Countach!!

 

IME the side markers are not the problem, the ugly bumpers have to go, definitely!
On a red car you can hardly remark the side markers, on the black it's different.

Another idea, keep the rear bumper around the lights and remove only the toaster on the front and rear end.

 

It's hard to imagine a day when having those DOT doodads in place will be important to the resale value.

I don't mind the side markers so much but certainly the front bumper could go.

 

The Euro details are how the car was originally designed,
and desired. That is how they "should" look. Euro fittings I think
certainly increase value. Of course the work has to be correct and good
quality and just for fun, I would keep the old parts even though it should be
against the law to put them back on. Even American FI cars deserve an
upgraded look.

I agree if the original DOT parts in fact come with the car, then the EU finish can only be seen as a plus.

 

Can you imagine a 'deduction' of points at a show for not having the original USA DOT bumper?

 

I wonder how many Countach cars left the factory with such stereo units?

This is one of the very last LP400S cars, still in the hands of the original owner. He told Emilio and I that it was badged 5000S from the factory but all the paperwork (including engine displacement is 4,000cc.) Possible? The 3rd stop light and side skirts are definitely an add on.

I am starting to look around for a late Contauch and dont even want to look at one with those stupid looking bumpers. Looks like a cop car push bar. Are the euro bumpers even still available or do you have to fabricate ??

imo it depends

i would take the big bumpers out (the ones late 500S, QV and anniversary)

but as for LP400 cars with just reflectors.... or LP400S with the peculiar cannonball wing-bumpers: i would keep them as they are IF they are still on original paint

 

I can't really imagine showing a car that had been so thoughtlessly violated by government.
