i don t see the interest to have the same cars in the garage... i prefer the diference. The day when he will decide to sold all his GTOs in the same time, the 288 gto market will fall -20% !
Im assuming this is 55179, with its (former) 7170 RE registration changed to what you see here for purposes of concealing ID? If anyone can confirm, TIA Image Unavailable, Please Login
His Ferrari pics are very nice. Have a look on his website : http://www.kimballstock.com/results.asp?W=4&F=0001&Step=289 "The 308/328 is the 288GTO of the poors" (Today's sentence from a 6-Ferrari owner and very good friend).
The "poors," huh? I hope that your friend isn't really so out of touch and unappreciative of the vast wealth he has that he doesn't truly appreciate the privilege of owning such a very rare car. There are plenty of very wealthy people who would love to own GTOs who can't get one simply because the supply, worldwide, is so scarce. And the people who drive 308s and 328s are quite privileged as well. A car that cost $60,000 - 90,000 new, and sells today between $30,000 and 50,000 is well out of reach for the vast majority of our planet's inhabitants. I'm only the owner of a "humble" 308, but I don't think for one minute that those who cannot afford "even" that are mere mortals, or "poor." I'm just thankful for and appreciative of, what I do have. . . And make no mistake, any Ferrari is a rare, beautiful, and exclusive thing. I have to object to your friend's sneering attitude toward what he evidently perceives as "lesser" Ferraris - and his attitude toward people who are not as well-moneyed (which is 99.9% of the world) is nothing sort of reprehensible.
Probably 99% of the general public would recoginise a 308/328/288 design before a 348/355/360 design as a Ferrari. That styling simply put Ferrari on the world globe as the "Ferrari" especially in the US when Magnum PI was running. It's instantly recognisable but not lesserof a car imo. It's a form over fuction style instead of the other way around
I agree. It is a form-over-function style, perhaps, but it still functions very well - and it's strikingly beautiful; in fact, it's the most beautiful Ferrari of all, I believe. And this is the reason I wanted a 308 since I was a child, and why the 288 GTO is my favorite of all the supercars.
I have the luxury of being around 5 Ferrari's everyday (not mine...I just care for them) 85 308gts quatrovavole 84 Euro Testarossa 87 355 Berlinetta 06 430 Spyder 64 250 GTO (rebodied Lusso) When I go gas them up or just take them out for a little CARdio exercise, the 308 gets more looks, question and pics taken than any other car. And there are more 288 GTO scale models and pictures that any other car in the shop, because it IS the most beautiful car ever concieved by a mortal.
Actually, the 308 GTB is the most beautiful car ever conceived, and the 288 design is an evolution/variation of that. But I'm not arguing. Gorgeous indeed.
Hi GTO enthusiasts, I don't want to "pollute" Joe's famous 288GTO thread with the sentence I put in a below reply. I put this sentence because my friend told me that as a joke. As we are two 328 owners, this was a kind a joke against both of us during a Ferrari discussion. Of course, this sentence out of its context can be chocking. My friend is one of the most generous I 've ever known: He shares all his nice Ferraris with a lot people, allowing to drive them, take pictures, and answers to a lot of requests. Another tipical sentence of him is :"never resell a 328", because of its reliability and fantastic body shape. Well, let's go back to Joe's fantastic 288GTO thread ...
Denis: You are too kind by half in your consideration. In the past, I have been used to 'thread pollution' (such as I can only describe it) in other threads I have started, but I can assure you that it always has, and always will, have absolutely zero effect upon my desire to continue discuss and share these wonderful cars. Unlike other thread-pollution episodes, I was in no doubt that the statement you made which has caused offense was not maliciously motivated, but was simply a joke in poor taste. I think suitable compensation for your transgressions could come in the form of posts of 288 GTO images of interest! Best,
Here is one : One -"eye" GTO. I really wanted to turn on the key ... I think it is 54777. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Since I was one who objected to the sentence, I must say that I appreciate this clarification. Knowing that you are both 328 owners puts it in a context that was absent in the original post. Thanks for the kind reply, and - as Joe said - please do continue to post photos of these lovely machines.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the reason. The speedo was on the passenger seat. I think there was a technical problem on it, but can't remember exactly. It was showing 6 km,... (may be it wasn't the one of this particular GTO ?).
