From my sources I understand that Gary Patterson at TCU is going to receive upwards of $2.5m per year on his new contract. I do not know what other head coaches make so I have not idea how that compares.

snippet: "Hofstra University, which has fielded a football team for the past 69 years, is dropping the sport. The school said it cut the program because of costs and fading interest and will use the $4.5 million spent annually on the team on scholarships and other priorities. The board of trustees voted unanimously Wednesday night to shut the program, which had been in existence since the Long Island school's founding in 1937...Four former Hofstra players are now in the NFL: New Orleans Saints star receiver Marques Colston, Kyle Arrington of New England, Stephen Bowen of Dallas and Willie Colon of Pittsburgh. One of the best-known Hofstra players to have played in the NFL was receiver Wayne Chrebet of the New York Jets..."

snippet: "Kansas coach Mark Mangino has resigned two years after leading the Jayhawks to the greatest season in their football history...Throughout his tenure, Mangino was plagued by anger issues, starting when he was involved in an embarrassing row with officials while watching his son's high school game. Also, following a close loss to Texas, he accused officials of rigging the game so the Big 12 could get a second school into a BCS game and make more money..."

    P.S.

Frank, maybe Les will return to the Big 12. :)

For 2009, only 15 coaches made more than $2.5mm. For a school like TCU, which isn't in a BCS conference, that is A LOT of money.

well last year WAS last year. this year AND last year they are a joke conference, i believe even kentucky could beat 80% of the teams.

last nights oregon oregon state game showed the lack of talent on the field, except for one or two guys, and the reward is the rose bowl. well thats a joke.

Pac 10 ain't bad at all. Don't get to see many of their games but I always watch for Oregon or USC out west. I think this year the conference has been pretty good.
If you want to call out a conference, try the ACC or Big Ten. Pac 10 has some good teams.
    Roll Tide.

ACC sucks, too, and let us not forget the Big Least...

We already know how good the Big Ten is. ;) If only the Big 12 played defense, we'd have two good conferences...

When the two teams going to the ACC championship game both lose their rivalry games in upsets to middling SEC teams, there is definitely a problem there.

The Pac 10 does have some good teams, and this year they were mainly in Oregon. As a former Seattleite I'm waiting for UW to rise back to the top. But Oregon showed last night why they're probably going to get killed by Ohio State: where's the defense, fellas?

(Likewise, Texas is probably going to get stopped cold by whichever SEC team they'll face in the BCS title game, just like OU did last year: they just don't have defenses like that in the Big 12.)

I have always felt that 6-6 teams DO NOT belong in bowl games, and kudos to Notre Dame for turning one down with that record. Including the 6-6 teams, there are more "bowl eligible" teams than there are bowl berths, so some of those 6-6 teams are going to be left out in the cold. But what's amazing is that 10 of 12 SEC teams will be going bowling, and all of them have at least 7 wins!

I feel the other way about the Rose Bowl. I'd be a little surprised if Ohio State is even in that game just after halftime.

From a Buckeye, your timing is off. We will be in the game at half, but by the end of the 3rd QTR Tressel will have worked his way into a box he can't get out of...

Oregon's lines are so much quicker than ours it will cause us headaches all day. We have a small chance of winning the game, but I wouldn't lay money on it. In any case, Go Buckeyes and today, Roll Tide.

That is bull****. We may not beat your SEC top team, but Ohio State wouldn't lose to the joke programs that are Tenn, Kentucky, Vandy, and the like. I say we would finish 3rd or 4th in the SEC.

Hell, even sorry arse Michigan beat Florida in 2007...

IN FACT, I just went back to 1999 to look at bowl game results:

Florida is 2-4 against BIG TEN teams...
LSU is 2-1 against BIG TEN teams,
and Alabama is 0-2 against BIG TEN teams.

Unless I can't count, that means that the top three SEC teams are 4-7 against the BIG TEN since the year 1999. How does that hit you?

Let's not go crazy here dude. I admit my Buckeyes got throttled in the two title games, but overall the BIG TEN has done pretty well head to head against the best of the SEC.

Vandy is 12th place in the SEC. We're also talking about THIS season and not 1999.

I meant SINCE 1999, not only the 1999 season...Let's see how it shakes out. I never argued that the SEC is not better than the Big 10, they are, just that the top teams in the conferences are closer that everyone thinks, simply because we lost two championship games everyone says that the Big 10 sucks, but apparently we have gone 7-4 against the SEC in the last decade. That's just the facts.

I am a Florida fan. The SEC is really strong. The Big 12 has a couple of pretty good programs but not as strong as the SEC top to bottom. Living in Boise I obviously have love for Boise State but there is no way we would want a rematch against Oregon right now. The Ducks are going to put a beat down on Ohio State. The Big 10 is soft. I don't see Ohio State with their play it safe attitude stoping the Duck offense. Not with LeGarrette Blount coming back and Misoli running the show. Oregon is gonna come out and punch the Buckeyes in the mouth (pun intended) and it will be over.

Plus Cinncinatti is the best team in Ohio and they are currently getting beat by Pitt.

Actually, One of the hosts here on WWL was talking Big 10 vs SEC and I think he pulled Bowl wins and the Big 10 was abyssmal esp. in head to head with the SEC in Bowl games.
You have to get through Florida, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, LSU , before you can move up past 6 th place , oh and to get to 6th place you have to play most of these teams in one season, you won't get to pad your schedule with The Little Sisters of the Poor and St. Mary's Infirmary or whoever the hell else is in the Pac 10 and Big 10

Well since you listed LSU twice and assuming GA and Auburn are not automatic losses that puts us in at least 4th.

Speaking of sisters of the poor, how is Vandy doing?
