Fernando Alonso is arriving at Ferrari because the famous Italian team needs a race driver in the Michael Schumacher-mould.

That is the admission of team boss Stefano Domenicali, as he contemplates Ferrari's 2010 season after deciding to replace the rally-bound Kimi Raikkonen with Spaniard Alonso.

"Ferrari needs someone for the team similar to Schumi," the Italian is quoted as saying by Germany's Auto Bild.

Domenicali said Finn Raikkonen, 30, was "very fast, but also very closed".

"In a car that is capable of winning, he was and is perfect," the Maranello based outfit's team principal continued. "But if the car needs to be developed and the team fired up, Alonso is better."

The early signs are that Alonso, 28, might clash with fellow Latin and incumbent Felipe Massa, especially in the light of Alonso's problems at McLaren in 2007.

But Domenicali said: "I've spoken to Fernando about (what happened at) McLaren. He felt betrayed, and also (said) that his relationship with Lewis was not always correct.

"At Maranello that will not happen. I can guarantee that," he added.

The Auto Bild report also said Ferrari's 2010 car will feature distinctive nose bumps, as seen at the front of the competitive Red Bull car of this year.

It amuses me to see how the wind is already turning.

Alonso was the incarnation of the devil for the tifosi.

As I said before: Once he starts winning for the Scuderia, the floodgates will open and they'll love him forever.

How can one become a Massadorer?

I thought that was a genetic disease you're either born with or not?

When they signed Alonso the disease mutated into a virus. The only cure is to send him back to Renault... ;)

Boss? Shouldn't that be Bozo. :)

A lot will depend on Schumi's involvement with the team. Ceteris paribus, Massa can't hold a candle to Alonso. More Schumi is better for Massa and worse for Alonso. No Schumi, no contest: Alonso will wipe the floor with Massa.

    Oh goody!
First Alonso now "distinctive nose bumps".
    What more do we need?

Don't you just love the pre-season PR spin?

But if Schumi helps Massa won't Alonso jump up and down and cry about team bias?

I don't know about that. Prior to last year, Button was a mid-field driver, at best..

Dave, it's not the first time a Ferrari has had "distinctive nose bumps"...

I dunno. Schumi is god at Ferrari and Domenicali's "achievement" is that he is Italian. Considering it is Ferrari, it is gonna be close call but I predict that the person who has actually accomplished things (other than being born) will prevail. Thus, advantage to Massa.

I disliked FA when he was beating Michael for driving titles. I am still kind of whoozy thinking he is going to drive for Ferrari. That said I know why they hired him and I am such a Tifosi homer that I am going to root for him and Massa like mad. Hell they could put damn near anyone in a Ferrari F1 car and I would root for them.

For the record, Andreas, some tifosi, like me, really like Fernando and have wanted him in a Ferrari for a while.

But this would be true with any driver who wins for the Scuderia..

You stated before that your metric for qualified commentary was what one had achieved in relation to the one being commented on.

Since Domenicali is team boss at Ferrari, and you are some guy posting on the internet, what does that say, based on your stated beliefs about qualified comments?

I've always disliked the little turd, but always knew (and acknowledged) he was one of the best drivers on the grid.

What could make it very interesting is if Massa comes very close, or even beats him... that will rattle Alonso like nothing else.

What else would be interesting is how Alonso will behave when (not if) things don't go his way. Can you imagine his rhetoric if he had the same problems that befell Massa in 2008? he would be apoplectic. 'cept Ferrari won't put up with that BS, they will snap him back in line REAL quick, especially Luca.

And in a butting of heads between Luca and Alonso, Luca will win 10 times out of 10.

The question is whether Alonso brought his 6/10's to Ferrari or if Renault kept it.

Or perhaps he is contractually obligated to share 3/10's with Massa in order to even things out a bit.

I know bro. You're one of the few on here. Along with me. :)

Then again we have the same perspective on Schumacher, so no surprise.

True. I'm just stating it because some people on here (well, some are luckily no longer here) said that it would never happen that the Tifosi would embrace Alonso.

Geez Luise. Whom are you gonna root for then? Fisichella?
