That game killed me too. We were rooting for PIT and they gagged away that game. I hope Cincy gets hammered when they play Florida in the Sugar Bowl...or will they escape that fate and end up against someone like a four loss Clemson team... MB
I guess the game of the day was Cincy-Pitt, it was a great game. Looks like the Gators are going down. Tonite Bama's looked like the Cowboys of the '90's, they deserve the win. See you all at the Sugar Bowl I guess.
My Gators sucked **** today. Not going to waste my New Years Day watching them play Cincy. I hate Nick Saban as a person, but he's the best coach in cfb imo. Out-coached Urban from top to bottom.
Wow, Tebow goes from being one of the most (if not already the most) decorated/celebrated collegiate football player in recent memory (ie. strong chance at 2nd Heisman trophy, potential 3rd BCS title-game appearance & 3rd national title) to just being another esteemed, over-achieving, and successful college qb / football player. ... though the Heisman votes were supposedly all in by this past Wed'! Avg' Tebow performance & all-world Ingram performance tonight or vice-versa, might've been enough to buoy enough votes for one of them to eek it out over the presumable front-runner (Colt). Of-course meaning if votes were cast after tonight's games AND one of the SEC player owned the field. . . What happened to the Gators all-time/all-universe defense??? I did expect perhaps an anemic offense, but I thought the D' would've kept them in it or even win it for them w/ a turnover td or two. Did. Not. See. This. Outcome. At. All. And I'm usually decent w/ sensing upsets or even recognizing parity. Though, this 'Bama team (not last seasons) reminds me an awful lot of Stallings boys who creamed the vaunted all-mighty 'Canes 15 years ago. . .
What happened to their defense? They were overrated by playing a weak schedule. Only ONE ranked opponent--LSU. What high-powered offenses have they played this year? Arkansas gave them the best quarterback they faced and they needed to have a field goal to beat them. Not to mention the defense has no discipline. Getting drunk the week of the SEC championship game and getting DUIs? I know only one player on the team did it, but he's not the first Gator to run into trouble with the law this year or in previous years. The amount of bone-headed decisions by players off the field is disgusting and it reminds me of something FSU and Miami players did back in the day. Florida losing is not a surprise as Saban is better at Xs and Os than Urban. Had Percy played this season, I'd say the Gators may have won this game. Defense wins championships and ours has been overrated and it's better they just move on and go pro...
Florida played fine, but you don't drop passes and throw interceptions and beat a team like Alabama. Plus, Florida's play-calling was awful, even though they have the talent to pull it off, anyway...but they had what ... 6 running plays the entire game?! Alabama was inside their heads, as witnessed by Florida's desperate all-pass attack. This desperation was evident in the 4th Qtr when Florida went for it on 4th and 3 (with another pass play!) instead of kicking the sure field goal to bring the game within 2 TD's. That's a sign of their coaches being nervous when behind. Of course, a team like Florida isn't going to *be* behind very often, but still, when they are, that's when it shows.
^ ... and that's why I don't make predictions (well, here anywayz! )! Roll Tide, Roll. A very complete, solid, and well-built team. Scores & stats don't mean much to me week-to-week, but seeing fundamentals, discipline, conditioning, and smarts - on both sides of the ball are what impress me. Gators offense is what I thought was sub-par or mediocre at best for them this season. Everyone then just said, oh yea- look at their yards rushing & this/that (omitting that bulk of yards were against h/s state champ. caliber programs). Interesting to hear about the Florida D' being too hyped & over-rated. I'm far from Gainesville (literally & rhetorically) so I just went by stats' & press reports. Also, the lack of institutional control/protocol by players for Florida- I read somewhere that since Meyer's arrival, they have more player suspensions/arrests than the next few teams combined!?!
I'm hoping Texas loses to Nebraska and TCU gets the championship game bid and then blows out Alabama. We really need a playoff because I don't plan on watching my Gators play in the Sugar Bowl (and for the record, I've never watched UF play in a non-championship bowl game since consolation games are meaningless). The more teams that remain undefeated after the bowl season the better. NFL Playoffs > NCAAF bowl games.
Admittedly, conference championship games (CCG's) take A LOT of the intrigue, drama, interest, and fervor out of the forthcoming big bowls (as evidenced by BMW.SauberF1Team). It's a paradox of sorts, the CCG is a playoff itself yet the rest is left to biased voters, whimsical coaches, and esoteric computer code. I personally used to enjoy the conclusion of the conference schedule & regular season w/o CCG's. 10-team conferences, everyone plays each other round'robin style + 3 inter-conference games (thus 9 + 3 = 12 game regular season) and 1 pre-season game (schedule the cupcakes). Anyone who wishes to be in the hunt for the national championship needs to schedule those 3 inter-conference games against viable/competent opponents. Only thing I don't like w/ a 12-team / 8-team / 4-team playoff is that I personally feel an undefeated or consensus #1 and/or #2 shouldn't have to play more than a single game to be in the title game. Someone who goes 12-0 (or if no 12-0 teams, then 11-1) should be in the semi-final of a playoff by default. Seeing a 3-loss VaTech or PITT or USC in the NCG via a playoff would make me hurl this season...
Exactly. Either have an all-playoff system or none at all. I don't like this mixed deal with their being playoffs and then non-playoff portion is incorporated. A little too "half ass" as some may call it. I was hoping the SEC CCG would lead to a complete playoff system, but since its inception in 1992, it doesn't look like that will be happening. The opposite seems to be happening--we have more bowl games being made adding to the number of viewers and ad revenue ON TOP OF the insane amount of money the SEC CCG makes. Money ruins a lot of things...
Okay, I said I would admit it so here goes.......I was wrong. Alabama played a whale of a game and showed that they deserve the ranking they now have. I give them all the credit. I made my prediction during the middle of the season when Alabama was winning but not playing near as well as they have finished the season with. They have really matured and whoever plays them for the National Championship will have their hands full........ Now, it is 7-6 Texas in the Texas/Nebraska game. I am really rooting for Nebraska to upset Texas because our son goes to TCU and Nebraska defeating TExas is the only way to make that game happen. And again, that would depend on how the voters ruled between TCU and Cincinatti........ Back to the game now as the 2nd half is beginning.......
Alabama's the best team right now. No one else could have whupped Florida 32 to 13. TCU would play Bama closer than Texas, but neither will make it a game. Players from TCU and Texas will be removed on stretchers if either plays Bama. Seriously. Bama is bone-crushingly large, fast, and agressive. Bama took 3 knees to end the game at the 10 yardline with their 3rd string running backs in the game today. They could have easily run up the score if they were classless, instead. Florida has the #1 Defense and Bama ran over it. Not around it. Through it. If Florida had played smart today they could have scored 21 points and held Bama to 23. Instead they battled it out with brute force and lost big, but not as big as Bama could have made it if Saban had wanted to run up the score. Just sayin'...
Alabama's offensive coordinator was calling plays designed to build up McElroy's confidence during the season. It was a luxury that Alabama could afford. But after McElroy led Alabama's comeback drive against Auburn, such coddling was no longer needed. This allowed McElwayne to call the plays that were needed for yards and scores instead of to build McElroy's QB confidence. Freed of the above restraints, Alabama's offensive play calling improved dramatically, as expected. There's no going back, either!
Clock running with 7 seconds left before the snap on 3rd & 13 for TX. McCoy rolls out, throws it away with 1 second left. Had a time out left but didn't call it. Terrible damn clock management by coaches and maybe McCoy. Got lucky they can review to see when the clock should have stopped. Made the FG to run out the clock, 13-12 win. No Heisman for McCoy IMO.... Awesome game by CJ Spiller tonight. Good finish in that game, too.
Unbelievable ending. Headed to see Texas vs. Alabama at the Rose Bowl! Although, I am a huge fan of Colt McCoy I think Nebraska's, Ndamukong Suh, should be a serious candidate to win the Heisman. What an effort defensively by both teams. My hats off to the kids.
Ok, so neither TCU nor Cincinatti will have the chance to play against Alabama. This will end that discussion...... Did you watch the TExas/Nebraska game?? Suh is phenomenal. He actually used one arm to grab McCoy on one tackle and threw him through the air about 5 yards further back. No wonder he is picked for all the defensive awards. 11 tackles and 3.5 sacks himself in the game, an SEC Championship game record..... Don't count out Texas in the National Championship game. Although I do believe the speed of the TCU defense and their balanced offensive game would fare better we will never know.... BTW, i am happy that Alabama beat Florida. Without Tebow they would be like Oklahoma without Bradford. Alabama is better equipped to be a real "Team". Congratulations on the win. However, being from TExas I am going to have to go with my state loyalties in the Title Game. Hook 'em Horns, Roll over the Tide.,,,,,,,,,No offense intended..........It should be a very good game.......
Final day for Heisman votes to be in was this past Wednesday... I'm up in the air, to be quite honest. . . 2x! Don't forget the A.P. can go their own away, a part from the BCS. Will they for TCU or Cincy? Not likely as neither was above Texas or 'Bama ever during the season. . . Big-12 Championship game record... I'll tell you all who will win. The team that's better prepared, better coached, and better motivated/driven. That's what wins bowl games & national championship games, not talent, stats, conference pedigree, illustrious history/tradition, nor award-studded rosters. 4 undefeated teams in BCS bowls, that's gotta be a first - if not a first time that the top-4 or so teams were undefeated heading into bowls (ie. 'Bama, Texas, Cincy, TCU, Boise). . .
I'm sorry, but I always thought the clock stopped on an incomplete pass WHEN THE OFFICIAL BLOWS THE WHISTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEVER knew the clock just stopped automatically all by itself on an incomplete pass. That is the worst blown call I've ever seen. The second worse was on that kickoff where the official said he was down on the 2 when his knee hit. If anybody would have noticed, he didn't even have the ball in his possession when his knee hit, he only got possession after he got back up.
Good to know, now that changes things somewhat I imagine. . . Wed, Dec' 5th deadline was 2008. Sun, Dec' 6th deadline is for 2009.
My dream of the BCS imploding almost came true tonight...I was really hoping the Cornhuskers would have beaten Texas so that TCU could get into the MNC game... Nothing against Texas...I will root for them in the title game against Alabama. I just wanted the BCS to come to an end tonight. Maybe if Boise State, TCU, and Cincy all go undefeated after the bowl games we can have the BCS put to sleep...
