Great fight last night Martinez vs. Williams. No belts, no title, just two gutsy guys going at it old school. Proves you don't need Pacqiaous and Mayweathers to make a great fight.
Martinez with the loss was more impressive than Williams with the win. I'd love to see Pavlik fight Williams.
Yes, this is still the fight. Williams would swamp Kelly early, but I want to see what happens when Kelly touches that chin. I had Williams winning by a couple of rounds, but could see it the other way too. Of course Lampy's commentary was biased to Martinez, and you have to be careful not to let that sway your scoring.
Williams vs Martinez was a great fight, but Williams made that fight much harder than it needed to be for him. I'll definitely take that bet too. Mosley is a great fighter, but everything he does, Floyd does better. There just isn't anyone at '47 and under I'd pick to beat Floyd right now.. maybe if he decides to test the waters at 154-60, given that he's already small at 147.
Judah, Baldomir, and Mitchell were all welterweights. Hatton would've been better served by moving up to 147 earlier so he didn't kill himself to make 140, which probably didn't help him much against Pac. Not to mention that Floyd fought De La Hoya at 154, with 10 oz gloves. So yeah, I think he can handle welterweights..
Judah was a blown up Welterweight. Baldomir was a statue, Mitchell who? Mosley would give him hell and probably beat him. A couple of years ago Cotto would have also given him trouble. Andre Berto is another one that has lots of promise. Floyd has a track record of making business decisions when he chooses an opponent. Manny will finally be a real test, and just to prove I'm not a Floyd hater, I give him a slight edge, because he will nullify most of Manny's attack.
Judah was a blown up welterweight? Huh? The fight was at welterweight. You mean he was a blown up JWW? Because he wasn't, he won the title at 147 and was still bombing guys out at that weight. Baldomir was the lineal champ. Sharmba Mitchell was a pretty well known fighter, so if you don't know who he is, you must not follow boxing closely. He was Floyd's first fight at 147. If Floyd fights Mosley, people will say Mosley was old. When he beats Pac, people will say Pac was too small. Berto relies too much on his physical talent, he'll get exposed soon. He couldn't even beat an overmatched Juan Urango without clutching him to death.
Anyone here interested in Pacquiao Vs. Clottey? I think Pacquiao has this one in the bag but I hope Clottey gives him a good fight. I'm thinking Pacquiao by TKO, ninth or tenth round.
Just got done watching the Clottey-Pacquiao fight on the web for free. It went 12 rounds, neither fighter looked injured and pac won by landslide punch count. Glad I didn't pay for this one, it was a fill-in-sure thing fight since Mayweather didn't happen. Looking forward to Mayweather and Mosley in May.
Fight was a total disgrace and a sham. Clottey was there for a payday. Arum promotes both fighters, so do you think he encouraged Clottey to give him a real fight? No way. Anyway 50K people got bamboozled. Not to mention the pay per view customers.
I thought the Pacman would have ended it in the 6th round. Mayweather/Mosely should be good. Pacman got a little cut and some swelling under his right eye. Manny landed 246 of 1,231 punches to 108 of 399 for Clottey. They reckon Manny got $12M for the fight and Clottey $1.25M. There was 50,994 in the crowd. The 3rd biggest indoor boxing crowd of all time. Ali-Spinks II 63,350 Louisiana Superdome Whitaker-Chavez 59,995 Alamodome Pacquiao-Clottey 50,994 Cowboys Stadium Someone, besides Pacquiao made A LOT of money from this fight.
Pacquiao a singer?? http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=5004037 HONOLULU -- A promoter says poor ticket sales have forced the cancellation of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao's upcoming concert Sunday in Waikiki. Ryan Chang of Island Fire Productions said Tuesday he stood to lose about $50,000 on the concert, even with late sales and walk-ups. Only 603 tickets had been sold for the show at the Waikiki Shell just days after more than 45,000 people -- the largest crowd to see a fight in the U.S. in 17 years -- watched Pacquiao retain his welterweight title against Joshua Clottey in Texas. Pacquiao was going to earn $100,000 at the "Manny Pacquiao Live In Hawaii Concert Celebration." He made at least $12 million for last Saturday's fight.
I saw the match Klitischiko vs. Eddie Chambers yesterday. It would have been more exciting game if Eddie Chambers had been taller. He was too small to hit the russian guy. The fight was boring as usual. The heavyweight division does nothing to me.
It is so unfortunate that this is the case nowadays. I enjoyed the sport watching fights that meant that the Heavyweight Division separated the men from the boys, a time when fighters came into the ring and put it all on the line. Like this one. Watch this final round through... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgqshipxYVs The Glory Days.
Very noteworthy observations. In Pac's last 2 fights, I have noticed 2 things: 1. He gets hit a LOT more than he used to. 2. His connect percentage is dropping rapidly, fight-by-fight. Both as illustrated above. Obviously, he is still very aggressive and remains very busy, and ultimately is finding a way to win against overwhelmed opponents. But, it is clear to me that a thinking fighter, who is as quick or quicker, has a great defense, a great jab, has great footwork/can move, an accurate counter-puncher, etc will spell big trouble for him. I can think of one man in particular...
Agree with you there on your two points. Cant WAIT to see a Pac-Mayweather fight. Gunna be fun to watch, IF it ever happens.
Unfortunately, that's a big "if". Why are titanic bouts so difficult to organize? All the best, Andrew.
