It will have a cover that looks as stock as I can make it look and still cover the engine. It may be CF, but most likely foam core glass. I'm thinging it should be 7-10 lbs.

    OK - sounds good. :)

On the stock engine cover, how much does that weigh? Would it have still fit over the V12 if you had wanted to use it? Just wondering if changing it is purely for weight, or did you have to knock up a new one anyway and just decided it might as well be a lightened version?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Stock is about 50lbs. It's unclear yet whether the stock will fit....but I don't think so. If it does then great and I can get on with driving while I build the new lid, if not then I build the new lid sooner rather than later.

I rough cut out the pieces for the last collectors tonight. Hopefully tomorrow I can fit them and tack them.

yup, lots of welding rod and a note saying apply as required :)

Once I realized the heads didn't fit I quit trying to keep it simple. A 400i engine could be installed per the Goldsmith conversion instructions and has been as a car turned up on ebay last year in England done that way.

Think like a woman shopping for shoes... you're not spending $3700, you're saving $400!!!!

Or does that logic only work when they initiate it???

I go the 2 collectors welded up, on the outside at least.....hopefully I hvae the argon to finish the inside as I can't get to the welding store until Saturday. Now that I'm done I've got the hang of it I think. On the last one instead of doing careful fitting and testing I justtacked the rough cut part then ran the whiz-wheel down the sides of the 2 parts and BAM!, perfect fit and done in 15 minutes. My welds have improved quite a bit too now that the project is done and I'm working on parts that hide behind the engine.

Does that give you enough time to finish? Or are you going to have to train up an apprentice to carry on in your absence? :p

    Nice work. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I got the inside of the collector cleaned up, the tits welded on and then the collectors welded on......I have no idea why gas is still coming out of the torch, the tank was on zero all night. I'll start the slip-on 2 into 1 collector tomorrow.

I got an email today from the guy who is really the lead on the costom ECU project saying he was sorry for being out of touch....but he was busy getting an engine RUNNING using a PowerPC processor and DIY code.

That means the ecu is now in debug.Very cool!

Nothing pic worry again. I put the nipples on the ends of the collectors.

Last night i spent soem time on the phone discussing a few issues. I'm still confused about the exhaust flow numbers the simulator seems to like. I would have expected the exhasut to want to be 70-75% of the intake not 82%-85% like the simulator is saying. I don't know.

I'm kind of surprised that I'm the only one all excited about the ecu news. You guys do know I need and ecu to run the engine and I don;t have any money to buy one right? Soooooo if the DIY version isn't ready in the summer/fall then the engine doesn't run until it is ready or I have money. Getting a test engine running with the ecu is a HUGE step toward getting my engine running.
