FYI, I abandoned the idea of a carbon body on one of our cars. Moulds were $60-65K +/- and popping a set of carbon panels was another $60-65K +/-. And, we have the panels on the car. I think it wouldn't be as much now, but that's a lot for a set of panels, I thought. Clearly, SpA has them... Or Michelotto. That'd be my first call... CW
Jeffrey: I cant blame you for appreciating the F50GT. But, much of the work to make an F50 become an F50 GT is irreversible. Dallara Automobili SpA has the body molds I believe, and you are correct that it would be a massive undertaking. I think a high-mileage Eu F50 sent straight to Dallara et al to be built as such and imported as a track car would be the right consideration. Knowing that you are man whose head rules his heart, my personal recommendation to you is to do absolutely nothing to your pristine F50 other than drive it when time allows. You see, I haven't forgotten what we went through to get it for you (!) and it is truly one of the best extant.
As always Joe you are a man who speaks with clarity! I would likely regret such an undertaking with my pristine example! I think your suggestion to find an EU car is the better alternative. It's one time I wouldn't mind a "story" car! Keep your eyes open for me!
Can't remember exactly how much they were asking for but it was around 200,000,000 yen. I think the Mclaren F1 was still upstairs when i went. They aren't actually selling the McLaren as they are keepeing it there for one of their customers. The guy that owns the McLaren F1 own the Jim Gainer racing team from Super GT and own a Ferrari FXX and a few other cars. He used to own a Mclaren GTR and merc CLK GTR road and race versions.
Anyone want to go halves on the £1.3million? I can have it Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays The other half can have it Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays We shall alternate between sundays
I remember watching video footage of that car from the FCA Nationals when they were out in LA. A guy shot the vid from his F355 on California Speedway, and the F50 GT was being tracked there. It came by him doing some insane rate of speed....the noise is terrifying!
When I saw it, it was in the front room, not that means much. I was told it was the second time they had it, so not exactly sure what the details were. I just know it wasn't there very long at all and at least I got the chance to see it in the flesh. Incredible car and incredibly rare. Thanks for posting the photos. I appreciate it. I remember the sales person mentioning Australia, but I don't remember it being around 2000, so maybe I should run for the Senate since I have a fuzzy memory about it. LOL.
Well I have pics of it taken in Australia in 2001 and 2003. Perhaps it did come back to the USA for a brief stop somewhere in between? Do you recall if the driver's seat had these head supports built into it when you saw the car? This seat was installed while the car was in Australia, so if you saw the car in 2000 it shouldn't have had those, but if it was 2002 then the theory of it coming back for a visit would be more plausible in my mind. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login
A few years ago, I wandered in on a dyno session for the #1 F50 GT. They were actually recording the sound to be included in a video game, so there weren't any actual figures that came from it. Fortunately, I had a video camera on me. Turn it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7jQ200ewOU&fmt=18 I've also seen it on a few other occasions at my "local" Ferrari dealer (owner owns the dealer as well). That looks like the same F50 that was at the FCA annual national event back in 1998. He also had a perfect 1973 Daytona Spyder on display there to. CH
Fantastic video, thanks a lot! I love one of the comments: A click on the profile page of the guy who posted it is a bit of a letdown - his authoritative "How do i know? because I did it" contrasts slightly with the fact that he obviously "did it" in a video game
